Default Frustration

Can understand the frustration of the FedEx J/S. Here's more frustration. There's a scab Chief Pilot jumpseating back and forth from DTW to FLL on a regular basis. He's with Kalitta Charters II based in YIP. Been on the scab list since 1989. He's having a ball slamming the pilot union, but doesn't mind hitching a ride with you folks. Sometimes he tells crews he's the CP for Kalitta Air (different carrier) so they won't suspect. Anyway, the point is the FedEx B777 Captain won't let one of his own J/S, but there's someone out there at FedEX letting this Kalitta Charters II CP (EAL scab, 64110) get on a J/S. Frustrating. By the way, last name starts with letters ZAM...(oops!).

OK so I have heard enough on this thread! How many of you flame throwers even jumpseat on the B-777?
If you want to ride from HKG non stop to MEM then email the Capt. Sorry if it is a French jet no options except another flight through TPE or NRT.
I don't care what anybody says 4 pilots and 4 jumpseaters is a total hassle. You can't get back around everyone to get to the galley, chnage clothes, or do anything else with out stepping over 4 jumpseaters with the seats fully reclined and stepping each one!!. Will I take everyone YES so "****" but it is a hassle and makes the flight very uncomfortable. Would I ever leave anyone behind" NO" but if you bid to live in HKG and decide to commute to to CONUS after each pairing???? W
Jumpseating is a privledge and not a right. I always ask permission from the Capt even if it is a short leg and I am the only one listed. Sorry not everyone looks at their email??? Buy the way these are the same A-- H "s and the same D---Heads from the MD-11 ,A-300, and believe it or not DC-10's (senior D--K Heads) that decided to fly the new jet???? All you can do is send a message that you want to request the J/S on a flight. Hopefully he/she will respond Otherwise try the FO or RFO etc...?
OK So I thinkewe have beat this Freakin dog to death!!!! Time to move on and deal with more substanitive issues??????

There is a simples solution here. Captains that don't want jumpseaters for particular legs should simply call Jumpseats and tell them to remove available seats in advance. Do not permit jumpers to schedule a seat and avoid the hassle of showing up and "counting" on the ride.

Default Not all 777 guys are dicks

I'm an F/O on the 777 and most of the guys are good guys. Granted we do have a couple odd balls (most fleets do) and unless you are a nonmember, there is no way you should have been denied the jumpseat. If you are a free loading non member, more power to the captain. I know we regularly carry jumpseaters. As far as space goes, the 777 is big but it does get crowded on a 15 hour flight, but I have never seen anyone denied a jumpseat because of this. I have also seen many captains allow jumpseaters to use the sleep compartment and show them all the professional courtesy you would expect. There is an issue with the Air France jets oxygen system which prevents us from carrying anymore than 4 total people, so that can also prevent jumpseaters from riding and often times we don't know we are getting that tail number till the day of the flight. Rather than paint all of us 777 guys as A**holes, lets focus on the individual and remember we don't know the source either. If there is some validity to the complaint, I would be ****ed too and would try to make sure everyone knew this guy was a prick too.

Another F/O and I were denied jumpseat travel from CDG to MEM on a 777. There were only three operating crew members; there were more than enough seats; we booked our travel in Business status because we were going to work the next day; and we emailed the captain three weeks in advance but he never replied. Instead, he told Jumpseat Administration to deny us travel while at the same time he gave permission for a friend who was traveling in Personal status (because he was in the middle of his vacation) and who booked the flight a week after we did.

I understand a captain's unfettered authority and I also understand that jumpseating is a privilege, not a right. But I don't think that should give a captain union-sanctioned approval to give favors to his friends at the expense of those who follow the rules. And frankly, to lie to Jumpseat Administration (he never had extra crew members scheduled to operate with him other than his one RFO) and treat anyone--especially fellow company pilots going to work--with the kind of disrespect and arrogance he showed us is I think out of line.

The union will not officially touch this issue, so instead they send us happy-talk emails trying to convince us there is no problem. I obviously disagree with the union because I think we do have a problem and it's focused in the 777 community. I've never seen this happen in the many years I've been operating the MD and in general I've seen just the opposite, MD crews go out of their way to accommodate all jumpseaters. For me, this means that I will do whatever I can to deny 777 captain JH from ever riding in a jumpseat in a plane I'm operating and I suggest everyone else do the same.

That's a terrible story.

But we got four JH's in the left seat. Any chance you could narrow it down? Where is he on the list?
