Huck,
MaxKts is right this is just the latest in a string that must be above 15 by now. Nobody is "making up" anything.......why are you so tilted against this issue being reported/discussed.....

Well, if only 10% of this is true...it's a disgrace. Unbelievable! And the "Captain" with the lack of common sense and decency needs to be counseled. He is clearly in need of an education...tool!
This isn't in any way acceptable nor is it the norm for all of you Non-FDX guys out there looking in on this.
We go out of our way to make sure everyone is accomodated on the J/S. This guy is a rare exception and is an embarrassment that we will deal with in house.

Let me say a few things-
1. I don't believe in denying jump seats. Ever. When I make PIC that will be my policy.
2. The guy that got bumped, if he plainly made clear to the captain that he had no other recourse than buying a ticket, should take it up with pro standards.
3. I've got 750 hours on the 777F at Fedex. I've flown with probably 35 captains, including just about all of the notorious ones. The guys in the left seat are just like the guys I flew with on the MD, the DC10 and the 727. No outsized egos. No non-members except Jerry W and he's gone. None of the behavior that I'm reading about in this thread.
4. The only guys wearing the Boeing 777 lanyard are the heads of the training organization, as far as I've seen. I wear my ALPA one, as I have since my first airline 17 years ago.
5. I DON'T AGREE with turning down any jumpers, but I will say that this is a totally different environment. On the MD I probably did one or two double-crew legs a year. On this thing I do them about 75% of the time. I did 14:40 last night, and have done 15:30 in the past. Yes, we should carry all comers, but it is not at all like the occasional Osaka-Memphis run on the mighty dog.
6. Get mad all you want, sling poo like apes, whatever. But start slinging the S word and this becomes a rock fight. And ol' Jack had some good things to say about that......
7. Oh and I got denied a jumpseat about 2 years ago. It was on an MD11 with bunks going to Anchorage, and they were doing a line check. The captain didn't want me in the cockpit. Maybe he went to the 777......

Wow.....so what if these guys flew for DL or UA or CO? Would they insist on half the first class cabin being cleared out so they would be more "comfortable" on their 14 hour flight? You want to be truly uncomfortable, sit in the cockpit of a CRJ for 45 minutes with someone in the jump.
PS...that Kalitta plane that goes from CVG to ANC continues onto HKG....and yes you guys can ride on us intl. We will even feed you!

Huck,
You seem to throw the "Professional Standards" threat out there frequently. I'm not sure this falls under their areas of responsibility?
My airport car's battery is going dead ... should I call ProStan about that too?
Regards ... Mark

You need to cut Airhoss a little slack. It's all a matter of perspective. At his airline, the only pilots who would ever consider leaving a fellow pilot behind in the name of having a choice of seats actually ARE scabs. When someone at his airline witnesses such selfish behavior, they automatically think "scab" and when they check the list, they're almost always right.
