Default FDX Hiring ~ What's the latest?

I have been getting mixed rumors around campus lately.

First I hear we have suspended hiring until next year, peak is not looking nearly as good as anticipated and that we are parking jets soon.

But then...Company is offering vacation buy back in practically every seat in November.......that says to me we are under staffed and short pilots for a possible heavy peak.

Wondering if anyone can shed some light on what they are seeing/hearing.

Thanks,

PT

What?! Not a peep after 350 views and hours sitting on the board Must be an APC all time record! I've never seen such an opinionated group so quiet before.

Somebody has got to know or heard something recently....

Looks like we will bring in a class of 12 727/SOs in Dec....maybe a few other cats & dogs willing to go to Anchorage, Hong Kong and Cologne.

Not expecting any more MEM based FO slots until after peak.

I think the pace will be "slow and steady" over the next 18-24 months.

YMMV!

Already too many mouths to feed and not enough work. It is just going to get worse in the next 6-12 months. IMO, of course.

How's your 4a2b fund?

We've hired 140 of the 500 the BOD approved. Word is what DLAX said about class of 12 in Dec, then back to 20 per month in Jan.

My 4A2b fund is solid, and I'm missing the extra days off as well.

My big worry right now is China slowing down which seems to be happening slowly but surely. Domestic business is flat (has been for years) Europe is in a total mess (publicized everyday) India is, well India (terrorism alerts monthly) and China banks are in major trouble and have a real estate bubble (similar to US) lurking on the horizon. Latest reports out of Hong Kong (everyone, not just FDX) is 6 straight declining months of air freight tonnage Read more here...

Not looking so good to me. Only saving grace is oil is hovering around $80-$85 which is easing the pain of lower revenues. If oil breaks $90+ though look out below!

Really? I heard a bunch of 727s to the desert after peak. Curious that we are adding more to the 72. I thought we would be hearing of an excess in the DinoJet near future.

They could excess out of the backseat of the 727 before any type of bid comes out.

Seen that one before.
