The cub is one of three orphaned 11-month-old grizzly brothers that FedEx Express moved from Alaska to the Detroit Zoo Thursday and Friday.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game rescued the bears in October, after an alleged poacher shot and killed their mother. The cubs were found scrounging for food.
Grizzly bears typically care for their young until cubs are about 3 years old, and experts believed the trio would not survive the Alaskan winter on their own.
FedEx Express donated its transportation services, flying Thor, Mike and Boo from Anchorage to Detroit on one of its MD11 aircraft, with a brief layover in Indianapolis.
“We are very thankful that FedEx was able to make this very special holiday delivery happen for the Detroit Zoo, especially during their busiest time of the year, and we are happy to provide sanctuary to these cubs,” Detroit Zoological Society Executive Director Ron Kagan said in a news release.
FedEx Express has helped zoos around the world safely move such exotic animals as polar bears, white tigers, elephants, penguins, mountain lions, gorillas, eagles and beluga whales. It’s scheduled to bring two giant pandas from a preserve in China to their new home in Edinburgh, Scotland later this month.

There are some who never seem to catch a break. Those bear cubs seem terribly stricken with bad luck. First, and if that's not enough, their mother is killed by some A-hole, probably for the fun of it. Then, they are taken, against their will, to of all places, Detroit. It could have been worse. They could have been taken to Memphis.

Hopefully the cubs will be treated well and will thrive under human care. Doesn't beat being free, but under the circumstances, it'll be a better life than they were experiencing after their mom had been shot. I'd caution them about going out after dark, because Detroit is a very dangerous place.

Please! don't let facts get in the way of some righteous name-calling.Except the article cited speaks of a black bear, not a grizzly...

 

No problem with shooting the bear in the above article, however, it's not the one mentioned in the initial article, which was reportedly shot by a poacher, not someone protecting their home, as in your posted article. Or do you think it's ok to poach game?

 

No, actually, that's some other A-hole. You can rest assured that if someone tried tasering the mother griz, they most likely wouldn't be around to answer questions about it.

The mother of these relocated griz cubs was probably poached, according to the story.

 

Yep sorry grabbed the wrong article. The shooting happened in October. I thought he alleged poaching shooting happened recently and has not yet been determined.

No poaching is not OK. I really do not like baiting, which is allowed up here also. Not much sport in that attracting bears with dog food and doughnuts while you sit in your tree with a bow.

Just wanted to point out to those in the lower 48 that these animals can be found in you back yard or house through no fault of your own. Thousand pound moose eat the pumpkins off your front step too.

I did like the sarcasm of the Detroit and Memphis new home.

No problem. Be safe up there. And just by the way, "they" only use the word "alleged", because if they came out and said the guy was poaching, they'd be in trouble with the ACLU or some other such group. In fact, the guy could have been caught in the act, both visually as well as photographically, and they'd still refer to him as an "alleged poacher", right up to his conviction in a court of law.
