Was the choice for the 300F all about more range versus the 400ER or is there something else that made the choice of the 300 since I kept reading purple was going with the 400?

Put it back. Nothing I like more than surprises and ambiguity.

I also like thread titles without a question mark as if they are sharing info instead of asking for it.

Probably because the 300F is an existing, certified model, while a 400ERF would need to be developed and certified. This could make a difference of a year or two in initial delivery. First 4 are scheduled for delivery in FY2014, the start of which for Fedex is in 18 months.
