Ditto that! Couldn't have said it better...... "Great for the job, beyond that, it SUX"

In fairness, there are good qualities to MEM, but the negatives out-weigh the positives, just MO. There are alot of our guys that like MEM, but there are ALOT more that dislike it by a very wide margin.

Certainly true. The folks that usually like it have family roots in the area.
When I lived there, I was considered a "Yankee" and my wife and I never could quite break into the local Cliche. Most of our friends were "Outsiders" too.

To each their own.............but I wish FDX had a domicile in DEN.

I had to laugh at this, cuz I had the same experience for years until my accent changed. Must be the water. When I first moved to C'ville my neighbor accross the street use to invite his homeboys up from Senatobia Mississippi for the weekend football games; I was always introduced as his ONLY Yankee friend, and there was always grumbling until I whipped out my little confedrate flag and white pointed hood. No, really I'm serious!
If you move here you need to learn three terms really quick: I'm fixin, Ah heard dat! and You know dats right. You'll be speakin local in no time.

Now seriously, no really, we moved away once and moved back cuz I hated commuting that much. Many true words have been spoken here, but it depends on whether you're married or single, kids are young or old and what you like to do in your spare time. If you're an indoor person then you can indoor here as well as anywhere. If you're an outdoor person or mountain person then this isn't the place. I have found that b reserve and the additional time with my family has given me much satisfaction. Livin on the planet (Memphis) makes things much easier, at least til you're more senior. That said, I'm always pakin and so is my wife; she was mugged back in the early 90's and things haven't gotten better. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Default single or married?

as some might know from my posts, I work at a kickass cargo airline up in NYC.
I live however, in Memphis. Right now it is still a no-brainer - we have to stay here in Memphis because wife's family sits the newborn as well as pick up the 5 yr old from PRIVATE school. I am also stuck here because I cannot sell my house. Now, heres the deal:

If youre single, come. Dont risk the commute and possibly get written up if you can't make it in; NWA may actually go out of business so there go alot of seats. Why take the chance? (I'm taking liberty there, who knows your call in rules)
As for single life, the women here are Gorgeous, easy, and dumb as a box of pringles. Almost as hot as in Little rock but you get the picture.......damn I miss being single! Did I mention the women are HOT?
Cost of living is so low it cant be beat. I literally come out ahead commuting to NY than trying to live there. My house is 135k- and 2k sq/ft. My taxes? 1350/yr. You cannot get a house with a jacuzzi Mstr-bath anywhere like this.
So for you - just rent a house!
Keep the kids in private school, my wife is a teacher in the worst target school in Memphis - Kirby. Nuff' said. (part of the reason shes goin psycho)

If youre married - come anyway for the shorter term. Family is worth it. My wife literally was in tears tonight because the baby wouldnt stop crying and the 5 yr old was acting out. She complained she cannot take being alone anymore waiting for me to come home weekends. I was heartbroken. So I decided to just seriously ask if she will come and live in CT. For 400k we will get a 900 sq ft 1 room condo with no garage. But we'll be together. I dunno how she'll take giving up her BMW and having to share one car - but we'll be together.
So come and live with your family here in Memphis. Its not forever - just 'till you get enough seniority to bid out. And the Life style will just be amazing for the money.
Dont buy a home or you wont be able to sell it.
Just rent it! Then you can get out easy!
Who knows, maybe the city will turn around when the Mexicans move in and the locals move out east. After all, these immigrants are by far the most hard working, hungry and respectful and modest people. And they do the work others wont do.
But if it doesnt turn around, well, take a long hard look at Detroit. Thats what Memphis will be under King Willy.
