Time will tell ................. The company has no control over it and they are nervous about it, so if what is forecast turns out to be more in excess numbers, then for once the damned beancounters are wrong ...........................

My point is where is the "huge numbers" for the next year and a half that some are quoting. As a few others said, just because some can doesn't mean any will.
The other point to be made is that many retire BEFORE turning 65. Heck, some still go before 60. What's the bantered around average age of those retiring since the regulatory age change, something like 62? That is what makes the chart worthless in this discussion.

Actually, I know 161 that won't be in front of me in a year and a half. So IMHO the chart is relevant as a base line. It is the only thing so far that I have seen that has substance. All of the rest is smoke or heck just silly banter. Where do we go from 161 to huge?

I hear the average age is around 62 also. Not sure where that comes from or how it is calculated. At a previous company, retirement age calculations included accidental/early death which brought the numbers down, as it would with ours.

I only moved up a couple more numbers a year than the chart reflected since the rule change. So if it is 62, it hasn't been a noticeable amount til now, why would it be this or next year any different?

No more 3% raises for 4 or 5 years?

Because those guys who would be retiring at 57, 58 or 60 before the rule change are now waiting until later (to get some pay raises) to do what they had already planned.

Not everyone stays until the end and rolls into the back seat. Yes, some guys medical out early. But the extra 5 years gives a bunch of guys flexibility on when to pull chocks. Who knows what they need - it is up to each guy. But there are a LOT who got 5 extra years at the trough, and no one knows when they decide enough is enough.

Could either be a takeoff from the movie 2001 space odyssey, or perhaps it's a clandestine link to: All your base are belong to us - Official Video Site - Planet Tribes
