Default DH class of service

I have a CDG_PVG DH block time 1130. Trip is published for First class. TIcketed for business class on China AIrlines and the ticket is about 2/3 of the First class fare shown in the pairing.

I know the contract says block over 10 they must book in the following order First -discounted, business- full fare or discounted, and first- full fare.

Any techniques on how to get ticketed or placed in First, as depicted on the trip summary?

I've heard anedcotally that biz on China Air is far inferior to US Flag carriers biz class. COntract also states that we'll us US Flag carriers or foreign equivalent)

Hi Olly, is it China Air(ROC) or Air China(PRC flag carrier)? I hope the former, but I doubt it, as they do avery nice business service. Have you considered deviating and going on KLM or even Emirates? Try giving corp travel a call and see what's available.
Cheers,
fbh

I tried deviating from DXB-CAN a few months ago and got a call from a very agitated Duty Officer. It seems that deviating into China has become problematic since the ramp usually coordinates crewmember DH arrivals. Some crewmembers have been turned back, ie ejected from China. You might call your ACP and see if this is still the case.

Deadheading into China is a non issue.
All you need is
Passport with valid Chinese Visa.
FDX ID
Copy of your pairing ( although immigration usually never asks for it)
China Chop letter ( see above they most immigration officials have no idea what it is anyway)
Enter as a regular passenger, Do not try to enter through Crew line
Do not wear uniform. Only wear uniform if jumpseating in/ out on FDX.
.
The only issue with China was Deadheading into one city and then trying to deadhead out from a different city during the same stay on the crew visa.

IMO, it's always a good idea to email the respective ramp and notify them of your travel plans, either in or out.

In Japan they'll make sure you have a shore pass waiting if you're an inbound DH to operate out. The NRT folks have always sent a rep to meet me coming off the aircraft, hand me my shore pass and speed things through C&I.

Getting the Chinese ramps in the loop seems like it can only help. They'll set you up with a ride (if you want it) and most likely head off any problems you might encounter if you were to just show up "unannounced".

YMMV, but it works for me.

Deviate CDG to PVG on Cathay FC! You can buy the tkt right off their web site... Fully refundable and changeable...only gotcha is if you no-show...then a 500euro charge. I just did this last month....
As far as Deviating into China. It is no problem....BUT..as someone mentioned...you MUST email the ramp. This is so the ramp can send customs your O/B flight info.... This proves you are a crew member...Because your VISA is a crewmember visa only.....

Happy deviating...
