Default Bikes In TPE

Anyone buy a bike while on a layover there? Was it worth dragging it back? I remember that the Giant brand was the one the front desk had a catalog for.
Thanks
Ray

I looked into getting a SYM bike in TPE. I assume you are at the Intercontinental, now Imperial Hotel? If so, the head concierge is a whiz, speaks good English and has arranged imports licenses for several FedEx guys.
Also, check at Malibu West next door, the cook's uncle owns a motorcycle shop and they may be of some help.

Thanks VegasBoy for the reply....I just started shopping for a couple nice bikes for my Daughter and Son inlaw for Christmas and thought this might be a good source for a nice set of wheels. So many of these products seem to be dumped on the U S market and sometimes it does not pay to buy, drag, and ship it back home. Thanks again..

I was RFO for an ANC crew this past summer and the capt. bought a nice carbon fiber road bike for like 1600USD for his wife. He claims the bike was like 3000USD in the states. I had never been to the Giant store before, but the deals seemed really good. I myself am looking at a Giant Anthem 3 for my wife and it seems to be about 500USD cheaper than in the states.
BTW, I asked customs about the duty on the bike as we were all curious in the crew that flight what to declare, and was told by the customs agent "bikes and toys don't have duty on them..." good luck

Any idea where the Giant store is? I layover about halfway between TPE and downtown and would love to see about picking up a bike. It's a short-ish layover so I'd need some help from the hotel I'm sure.

Any details on the deals would be appreciated.

Lemme know what you guys are looking at. Specifically look at what components it has on it. Giant, and many others, have a nasty habit of putting good rear derailleurs on the bike but crap everywhere else. Fit issues are different from type to type. What you would be looking for regarding standover on a road bike is not the same as it would be for a mountainbike.

I worked in a bicycle shop for four years through highschool and college. Giant makes good stuff. They account for nearly 70% of the frames sold in the US. Giant is the world's largest frame supplier and make frames for Schwinn among other labels.

You get a new Harley and your wife gets a new $500 bike. Were's the luv? Thought you'd be ponying up for a new Sportster.

If you go out of the Imperial hotel, make a right turn till you get to the next main intersection, that's Michuan West Rd. (spelling?). Left turn on Michuan West Rd. and go for about 1 to 1&1/2 miles and its on the right hand side. It's on the main drag and I think that it has a blue Giant sign out front. They're real nice folks but only one guy in there (manager I think?) speaks english. Your hotel may know where it's at. It's the one on Michuan (maybe Minxuan) West Rd.
Good luck
