The woman shown at the beginning of the article would definitely switch off my sleep, and I'd probably lose my jeans as well.

I figure each time I've flown/worked through the night reduce my lifespan by one day. Nowadays, I enjoy a low-paying, but day-only flying job.

ALPA (and other pilot assosciations/unions) knows each of their pilots age, work status (active or retired) and typically date of death.

They could easily release summary data on:

- the avg age of retirement (...which they do, and it's supposedly 62.5)

- the avg age of death after retirement

This data could easily be sub-divided into:

- Cargo vs Pax

- Pre Dec 2007 avgs vs. Post Dec 2007 avgs

They don't need to take any political positions.

Just provide pilots the summary data, and then let us draw our own conclusions regarding the most logical type of flying to pursue and the age to retire.

But please, provide us the actual data....we can't get it any other way.

(p.s. I don't think flying at night, or continuing to fly as we get older and older, increases our longevity --- but I may be wrong )

I don't think it is the flying that causes the aging, I think it is the hold the beacon calls.

I've noticed a distinct deterioration of my sleep quality ever since becoming a moderator. Pretty sure the Patience and Tolerance gene got switched off.

We all must die one day sooner or later. I say to live fast and to die young. Seize the day (or night)!

FYI, the age most often quoted by the anti-65 guys is an urban legend based on insurance tables from the '50s.

Actually, statistics show people who continue to work INCREASE their longevity because they have a daily purpose in life.

Perhaps, but consider the extra time you get to spend with your furry friend there.
