Well, in this case you are completely WRONG! In the 2006 contract our union negotiated for agency shop which under the RLA allows a negotiated contract whereby any pilot can be terminated for non payment of union dues. So there is no option to withhold dues (not that I would exercise it anyway).
My point was that if the union could negotiate such a drastic action taken by the company, an action where the company has no interest whether we pay our dues or not, why cannot the union attempt to negotiate something that is in our best interests. Yes, we may have to give something up. But flying DP's is supposed to be a safety issue. In the end, as many have said on this site, it is all about the money. Flying DP’s just isn’t serious business to our union membership or there would be something in place to discourage it. Collecting money for all members is big bucks. And money talks! BTW, if this were about fairness, why were all the non-members grandfathered into the agency shop rule? They have never had to pay their share. That was part of the negotiated deal in 2006. So non-members get away without paying, but members who toe the line (DP flyers excepted) are required to pay. No fairness there. |

Nightflyer makes a good point about our union. Maybe it's about time we give the junior guys some real representation in our union? Perhaps we should allow the junior members of our union, in good standing, to vote on agreements. Maybe even go so far as to allow them to elect their own representatives on our MEC.
I know, crazy talk!! |

Sorry Niteflyr, I watched for 13 years here how things worked with Voluntary Dues. Guys would quit for every little thing. Pilot managers never paid a Dime. Why do you think we lagged the industry for so long? So if you can't get them to stop surfin porn on a layover for 10 minutes to vote, how are other issues gonna be solved? I got it, why don't we just hang out in ops an b1+c#, "my 9u$$y hurts!" |
I don't know where this thread is going, but good job 757 FOs. Correct me if I'm wrong, and someone definitely will, but I don't think a single FO has picked up one of the heinous dps this month. Wish I could say the same for the Capts!

Actually I think 3 were picked either thru vto or on first night of OT. I don't think any in either seat have been picked up after the first night of OT.

Last 57 Cap DP, 76/27Apr is now being flown by new Cap SE (I assume voluntarily, since they can't be assigned to even a custom line.) The guy has been here long enough to know better.

Not an excuse, but I would venture to say that since he literally just checked out, he probably hasn't been paying attention to 757 DPs. However, he is way to senior not to check them out before putting in a custom line request.

I flew with the captain on the trip for 20 APR. I had been assigned a DP from RA, he had been drafted for it. He showed me his math on how much he was getting paid for that trip, and showed me a copy of his previous month's paycheck -- which was substantial, in which he had been drafted for one other high CH DP, and two other normal trips. He knew it was a DP, and because of the extra pay, he didn't think it was that bad... it was.
