Default Crews per airplane

Does anyone know what our (fedex) crew staffing formula (manning formula) is? Not including instructor and management types.

thanks

Not sure, but I think it's airplane specific. B777 I heard was manned at 20 crews per airplane.

And FDA A-300 and 757 are crewed different than MEM based as is ANC MD-11 vice MEM MD-11/10. If you're looking for an overall big picture, divide the number of pilots by the operational a/c from the last bid. (then tell us what you came up with )

audreys aircraft analysis is pretty neat.....assuming its accurate....most of the info on there seems to be readily available but never totally compiled in one plane. check there.

Well I decided to just look at the 757 in mem. June bid pack shows 202 captains including pay onlys and 56 a/c. that comes out to 3.6 crews per airplane. Based on that, a/c deliveries and the 13-03 bid, we shouldn't need any 757 captains for 2 years.

That is a pretty cool website. It is showing about 13 crew members per a/c presently which doesn't take into account the retirement of the 72s. So if it stayed that way, the average would be 6 crews per airplane. But as Aeris said above each airplane is crewed differently. And the Union said they use block time or credit hours. They did not offer anymore info insight than that. The real answer is, no one knows.

Looks Like Audrie doesn't understand the meaning of "operating fleet" versus "total fleet."

Where did you get the total a/c number? Make sure it is a total for domestic aircraft avail. 5 a/c are loaned to Morningstar in Canada and I' not sure how many are in Europe.
Not disputing your numbers, just asking to make sure you have the right numbers. Not near a Fedex computer to get the up to date numbers.

For the 757, I used operating a/c for May 2013 which was on the posting. My projection of needed 757 Captains is based on the projected no. of a/c multiplied by 3.6. That no. is always way less than the no. of Captains we just made on the 13-03 bid to May 2015. The training letter will probably meter out Captains as needed. If you really wanted a more accurate crew staffing formula, you would have to subtract the no. of 757 a/c operating in Europe from 56.

Audries uses 350 a/c. The total number of a/c plus spares etc are 343, so they were close enough. Due to the way we crew, Audries is just going to be a giant wag. But I think the projection of us being fat on pilots for along time is fairly accurate.
