I thought so I just didn't see why they would have that sim around.

How big is the ONT base and how long does it take to hold it? Is ONT mostly night flying?

About 100 crews+- and growing. ONT is mostly night to the best of my knowledge (I'm a SDF Bus guy). Lately newhires have been hired directly to ONT.

Thumbs up

Does anyone know what are the standards they are looking for and has anyone got an acceptance letter with a so-so SIM ride. Even though I acknowledged and corrected my mistakes, im worried that I might have lost my shot.

I practiced to fly in a 767 simulator because that seemed to be the aircraft everyone was getting (Microsoft simulator! – kid you not! - had 4 day notice from the call to the interview – couldn’t find any “real” sim. prep with such a short notice ). I knew of course that they’d use whichever simulator that was available – sure enough, DC8 it was.

The evaluator gave me an excellent brief on the simulator, which instruments to focus on, that it had a fairly heavy feel to it, etc, etc. I had never flown a heavy aircraft, but c’mon an airplane is an airplane right? - How heavy can it feel?

I remember that when I rotated to 8º degrees or so I waited for a couple of seconds before pitching up some more (didn’t want to hit the tail) and it felt as if I was in the gym lifting weights. I mean I was doing some serious muscle work (not that I have any muscles) and that thing wouldn’t even budge! So I pulled on the yoke even more and at that point the evaluator must have noticed that I was about to either give birth (I’m male) or get hernia and suddenly he said, oh sorry, let me unfreeze it for you!

When I finally got airborne it was not pretty; I felt like I was all over the place because it was very heavy in pitch, yet light in the roll control (at least that’s what it felt like). At one point, the evaluator even said: “I told you it flies like a truck - have no idea why some people won’t bid off of it when they can?” When I was all done, I just wanted to scream – I CAN do much better than this, no really, trust me!

Well, they called me for my medical 3 days later which shows that we tend to be our worst critics. I wish you the very best!
