The MD-11 is an object. It does what the pilot tells it to do. I hate when facts get in the way of feelings but over half of all MD-11 accidents in history (all airlines) have been pilot error. You can't take the MadDog accidents out of the equation and have validity. As for my comment about DPs it was in the light of it is a different topic...wasn't the original topic about flying tired. A P2P rep told me once that DPs can be for other reasons not just fatigue. Not so sure about that. Legal on paper doesn't mean smart and rested! I do believe people sleep differently and what may be onerous and fatiguing to me may not be to you. That being said, I don't fly them in support of the SIG. Anthrax's list had things that don't pertain to fatigue, that was my comment really. Didn't probably make that connection properly.

Picking up DPs definitely make you something.

SO - In your opinion the problem is commuting not some of the trips, noisy hotels, delays, etc!

With an attitude like that - I for one, am glad your time here is short!

So, the company is ranting and raving at the pilot group once again about performance ........... The RED FLAGS are all over the place, most of this pilot group is flying tired, stressed and it all boils down to one central issue ...... FLIGHT SCHEDULES. They will not admit this no matter what , but we are constantly being told to FLY SAFE ......... Easy for those Monday morning quarterbacks to pick us apart when they are working normal working days and sipping their custom coffees in a safe environment of the office ............

42GO must only fly O&Bs or is retired. He's been 42GO for 7 years.

As is typical for people his age, he has solutions for things affecting his schedule and life. Everything else tends to become blurry and doesn't seem real.

You can give FedEx management progressive safety tools. They can even heavily publicize the creation of a these new (to FedEx) "Industry Leading" programs. Never mind the arm twisting required to get them to the table.

But you can't force them, collectively, to integrate a bona fide progressive safety attitude into their modus operandi. Lots of work ahead.

P.S. It's not industry leading if you don't integrate it....

All I know is this, when I work here or any other job on 3rd shift I am tired. The 2 or 3 hour nap before a 2 am show on day 1 is not enough nor is the 4 or 5 hours I get in the hotel before going back to work that night; I'm tired, chronically tired. Tired people make more mistakes. Not exactly news and really no way for it to change. The solution is that there is no solution; I cannot quit and the company will not change its business model. They should be happy we haven't bent more metal than we already have.

With the number of bidpacks that lack city purity and stack day/night swaps on purpose, the company better just get used to me being tired and making mistakes. No iPad, HUD, EVS or any other techno-toy will ever change that.

The best I can hope for is that I live through the next 10 years so I can get out of here in one piece.

How do you defend that tactic? They will say that it is your responsibility to show up fit for duty.

Don't need to defend it. Procedures for this are in the contract. I've done it twice and it was no big deal.
