Copays too! The gubmint made that change! I dumped the HCSA! Not worth the hassle.

I've had LOTS of medical bills this year. Used my HCSA for ALL my copays until it ran out of prepaid funds ... EASY!

Historically, we haven't had much need in my family. So, I'm not going to give wage works up to $2500 each year. If I use less than 2/3, I lose out, and I was not using 2/3 even when I pared it down to $1000/yr! Kinda like paying for all those extended warranties, that I never use. I'm better off, right now, paying for the occasional "repair" out of pocket. I can still claim the expense and get the tax deduction!

Of course, YMMV!

Default IRS medical expenses?

Technically, you can only claim medical expenses that exceed 10% of your income. Not many of us meet that criteria, not even me after major surgery, intensive care, MRI's, CAT Scans, medications, follow up visits ...

2013 changes to itemized deduction for medical expenses

Still not worth the effort for less than $1000 in expenses each of the past 3 yrs, even with a child (almost 10yo).

Agree it almost not worth the hassle but some of the additional uses are glasses, physical therapy, and paying the deductible at the begining of a plan year.

Not if you had planned correctly. I know I'm going to hit the deductible and at least a few co-pays for annual physicals, sport physicals, dental co-pay. Pretty easy to figure out your known expenses and use pretax dollars to pay for those. I can easily use the $800 in tax savings for something I want...instead of letting Uncle Sam use it to buy some welfare recipient a new iPhone.

One kid and we've been extremely lucky health wise.

After the change to no OTC drug, and having a glasses claim from Davis Vison turned down 4 times because Wageworks was never satisfied with the ever increasing stack of paperwork I submitted, I bailed on the HCSA. The tax savings was not worth the time and aggravation incurred with doing business with Wageworks.
