Seems as if we have another sheriff who feels the need to save commuters from themselves.
Who better to judge whether you're sufficiently rested to fly than an individual sitting in an office looking at the paper times of your jumpseat and scheduled trip

Obvious solution to alleviate his concerns is to build a hotel rest period prior to every long departure in Memphis
That way the concern will be eliminated for commuters and Memphis based pilots. True, productivity will be lower, but the operation will be safer and the NTSB look back for rest concerns would be eliminated

Not sure why they're concerned. They have already stated, cargo pilots don't need crew rest.... Cargo cutout don't ya know.

Except ... that the contract also says that from the check in time for your jumpseat (to domicile) until the block in from duty time (at destination) can't exceed XX.X hours. It seems to only limit jumpseats prior to long International legs.

Only for staging... Business (within three days of an event) is not subject to that limit.

Note 26.J.2.e, -predicated on the premise that time spent on the Jumpseat ... Is not accrued duty time under this contract or the FARs.
