UPS Hiring in the New Year
#281
His decision to go to management is not only puzzling but indicative of a more serious problem that we as a union must overcome. This insidious cancer must be cut out, permanently.
While I despise (Yes Rick, Despise) people that walk on the backs of others as they climb the ladder, I think the very fact that he is in the airplane he will probably transition to at least makes the transition credible to the FAA, ( paid off anyway, so not that it matters) the other DB has never seen the inside of a 74.
His total time in the airframe is limited to riding in the back as a passenger. His total time all together is less than most of us had to get hired at our first credible job ( I've seen the resume ). IMHO, that's a REAL problem.
Anywhere else, never happen, workers paradise? Status quo....
Carry on.

Guys
This tool don't gave a rats a... to what u or I have to say about him here or the b@g that's why he did what he did so there's no reason to bash him as this was his sole decision and no one elses. No reason to ruin this beautiful Saturday discussing tool bags. Go play with ur kids and take your girlfriend or wife to dinner. His choice his life his destiny...period.

There is more to earning the left seat than just from seniority. Quality of past flight time is just as important. I am sure he will be a great representative of management at UPS. The line pilots have such a narrow view of the world most of the time.

You were one of the WORST management pilots I flew with (and that's saying a lot), so what's your excuse?

And then there is UPS.
Passing the check ride / IOE earns you the opportunity to stay there but getting there is supposed to be ALL about seniority.
If that wasn't the case then merit would apply and then be bastardized like any other human endeavor. Who you know and who you blow would matter more than ability in the long run.
I guess that's why you were there. Know or Blow?

Wrong again. If you reference the current CP hotline, one of the 6 guys listed (KH) is an ANC Basic Indoc/FBS instructor being "upgraded" to Flight Qualified status. Probably to take the place of the previous guy mentioned a couple months ago who was asked to resign for unrelated matters.
As if news of having an IPA guy cross over isn't bad enough.
Indeed.

Let's not confuse the issues. I was 100% correct. UPS does not take "amateur" pilots, hire them as ground school instructors and then make them mgt pilots once they earn their licenses like they used to. This practice stopped a decade ago.
They hired a line guy into management. Big difference.
The fact that the db did this and his motivations perplex me. He is a professional pilot though. I liked what the previous poster stated. Bottom line is that the IPA ranks just decreased by one and mgt grew.

Hiring a ground school instructor (already with licenses) then promoting him to Flight Qualified is exactly what happened yesterday, regarding one of the other individuals.
