SEIU is sometimes referred to as the "purple ocean" at political events because of the union's recognizable purple shirts. The union is also known for its Justice for Janitors program and strong support for Democratic candidates. It spent $28 million supporting Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election, making it the "organization that spent the most to help Barack Obama get elected president."

Sharpie, Pin, or favorite bit of "flare" from TGIF…I don't care. You can cover/get rid of that offensive piece. Get onboard. If you are going to let 4 tiny letters on a lanyard stop you from wearing it, what are you saying to the rest of your fellow pilots?
Let's work together and go forward.

Already sharpied, the question I have is what does the lanyard say about what our leadership thinks of us. Just so they get enough to cover my obamacare luxury tax the SEIU helped get us.

It's a user name! Who gives a crap? Were you busting tables? Was Dlax on laxatives? The point is he is trying to call for unity and slamming people at the same time. Go figure!

I'd imagine most of the highly offended people refuse to eat and restaurants and sleep in hotels serviced by SEIU workers, right?

The mec has asked us, during negotiations, to wear the lanyard. Pin, hat, lanyard, clown nose, it doesn't matter. If one can't be counted on to wear something as simple as a lanyard while the Union is negotiating our contract with our large multinational employer, then how are you expected to show up for the hard stuff, like informational picketing, or a strike.
The lanyard is just a sign that you are willing to do the small stuff, and are ready to do the big stuff.

We've never had a history of unified action, so why should we start now. The company knows we are very divided into our separate factions.

I remember a congressman up for re-election handing out vote for me baseball caps that had Made in China labels while there was the Tiananmen Massacre of 1989. The media made a huge deal about it and he did not get re-elected. SEIU has no place here!

A portion of our membership will get the contract for all of us. You're welcome.
