Geez, MD.... we got a butt load of discussions going on about PBS, NB/WB rates, picketing, legal pilot work actions and the like.... Now you offer the company a way to give us a benefit in exchange for PBS....

When i see the Managing Director of Safety show up in the crew room wearing it and hawking its use to the crew force, I'll know negotiations are gonna suffer!

If you know someone who was at Emery Worldwide in 1998 ask them about Capt. Craig A. Mueller, or if you have access to the September 1998 issue of Air Line Pilot there is an article about him.

Might be worthwhile for the safety committee to contact Herndon for more details.

To me it's just like anything else. If you believe in something it's true regardless of the data sets. If you looked at the stats they would be staggering for no need for them. Not sure if this was started because of the tragic loss of the young man in Memphis but his was not an accident caused by a moving vehicle. To each his own, but forcing something on people......I have had enough of that.
Seriously? "The man"? "Forcing"?

You're so oppressed!

Dude, you get paid to do a job and comply with your employer's policies. Nobody s "forcing" you to work there. If you don't like it, quit and start your own company. Or, at least you can work to get a no vest clause in the next CBA and rally the pilots to fall on their swords over this ever so serious issue.

Good luck!

I walked all over the Kitty Hawk ramp in just the uniform, the BAX ramp, too, never felt threatened..... but there was no way I would ever WALK around the Emery ramp in Dayton, period, except on a preflight with a vest and a eye toward the crazies driving the forklifts highspeed in reverse.... that place was an OSHA nightmare.

Walking the Kitty Hawk or BAX ramp is like crossing the street at midnight, in Podunk, IL, as compared to the FedEx ramp (or for that matter, the UPS ramp in SDF) in MEM, which is like trying to cross the track while the Indy 500 is being run.

Regarding wearing a vest at CGN & STN. Everyone has to wear one so why should you be any different? Deal with it..... No-one is going to question your fashion sense :-)

Hey LS,

Lighten Up Francis. The "Man" comment was meant to be a bit tongue in cheek as to where our country has gone. The vocal minority seems to always win and the silent majority just shakes their head as I am doing towards you. As I said, depends on who you talk to. One doctor will tell you to take vitamins and another will tell you that you get enough in the food we eat. Take your pick. Makes you feel better take them. Makes you feel safer to wear a vest, buy one. I have walked around our ramps for 13 years and never felt like I was in danger of losing my life. FACT. I know others have, their facts and I appreciate them. I just think that if we knee-jerk from every danger out there we should stop the whole operation then right? Safest way to go is not fly at all right? I love my job and I am not oppressed as your rolling eyes said. I will do what is asked as everyone who works somewhere does. My Lord Dude, you have never complained about an issue Mngmt has brought down or thought of doing....God Love Ya....your perfect!!!
