One doctor will tell you to take vitamins and another will tell you that you get enough in the food we eat. Take your pick. Makes you feel better take them. Makes you feel safer to wear a vest, buy one. I have walked around our ramps for 13 years and never felt like I was in danger of losing my life. FACT. I know others have, their facts and I appreciate them. I just think that if we knee-jerk from every danger out there we should stop the whole operation then right? Safest way to go is not fly at all right? I love my job and I am not oppressed as your rolling eyes said. I will do what is asked as everyone who works somewhere does. My Lord Dude, you have never complained about an issue Mngmt has brought down or thought of doing....God Love Ya....your perfect!!!
Sorry that I struck a nerve. Perhaps you missed the grin emoticon at the end. Apparently, you're projecting as it seemed that you had a vein popping out of your forehead when you wrote your first post....and one is about to burst now.

Lighten up yourself....but nice try at back pedaling.

Peace and take a breath, dude.

I think we should all wear vests at all times even at home walking the dog. Not only that, we should be required to wear bike helmets at all time also, what if we tripped and fell on the ice or something.. After all "if it saves just one life, it will be worth it"

JNYVEGAS and the ultra sarcastic "fr8master" (or should I say 2 tools in a shed?)

Are you serious? Of course not ... you're just one of those guys/gals that likes to stir the pot. Get a reaction, talk smack on the internet. I get it, anti-establishment macho/feminist BS (no idea if you're a dude or chick so I feel compelled to be fair/balanced). Here's a question:

Would you allow you're son, daughter, wife, or husband (no inference) to roam around the FDX MEM ramp without supervison between 1-4 AM? Just turn them loose and say good luck, see you in a few hours. Moron.

Lack of experience or plenty of experience, it's dangerous out there. The entire operation would literally be shut down if it was a military base. This is about $$$ so the packages keep moving.

After 15 years on property, I think reflective vests are a GREAT IDEA and well overdue. Takes about 5 seconds to put them on and maybe, just maybe might save a life. I'm not just talking about fellow pilots. EVERYBODY needs them.

Small price to pay for doing bizness. Yes - FDX foots the bill. But in the meantime, buy your own and write it off on taxes as essential gear for your job until the purple/orange machine wakes up. Additionally, anyone else among the 4500+ pilots think it's pretty darn/damn dark out there. Lighten the joint up with additional gate and alley lighting.

Folks, IMHO there is not a single package on ANY day that is worth severe injury or death to ANYONE employed here.

Note on helmets outside the workplace for JNYVEGAS: a very good friend of mine was involved in a serious motorcycle vs. car incident. He was on a motorcycle with his GF, when a motorist pulled in front of them with no reaction time. Both wearing helmets. Both helmets cracked. Both survived after airlift to the Med in Memphis. Attending physicians and paramedics said both would be dead without the helmets ... no question. Really kind of a Darwinian principle. The strong/smart survive. But do whatever you want for personal freedom dude/chick.

Next incident: Weekend family bike ride. Mother riding a cruiser bike (no helmet) in a local subdivision with 18 month old in one of those car seat mounted deals on the back of a bike. You've all seen the setup. Husband riding alongside. Wife says she's getting tired and attempts to slow down and stop to rest. Loses balance with addded weight on rear of bike, falls over and hits her head on the curb. Mother is dead on impact, secured child survives with no injuries. Husband watches it all go down. Tragedy. Helmets make a difference. Get real DA.

I have never understood this anti vest thing. No, it's not a sign of a "nanny state" or loss of freedom, it's just common sense. The more visible you are, the better your chances of not getting mowed down by a vehicle. Someone said that there isn't a reliable way to determine how many accidents are prevented, and there is some truth to that. The ramp environment IS a hazardous place....especially during hub turns when everyone is on the back side of the clock. No matter how immune you think you are because you're so smart, you can be run over, period. Are you passionate anti vest folks against rotating beacons or nav lights?

Perhaps some of you are just too into your own dashing pilot extraordinaire looks on a friggin freight ramp. Get over yourselves.

Is there really a multi page thread arguing over something that really boils down to commonsense? Apparently.

Just another plug for reflective lanyards. Two birds, one stone.

Well looking around the MEM ramp last night, awful lot of pilots with no common sense. Perhaps it takes uncommon sense.
