So, I just wanted to ask: We gave the company two days with which to put in our monthly bid. That means instead of 7 days [a week] to put it in, we now have only...five. You had better put your bid in before Wednesday, January 13th next week or you will be SOL.
What did we get in return? Typically, when you deal with a union, it is a give and take situation. We gave them two days, what did we get in return?
I'll be interested in hearing the complaints when people find they have FORGOTTEN to get their bid in, and the big ol' ding-a-ling goes up their rear end and they wind up with a HORRIBLE schedule as a result! I gare-un-TEE you this is going to happen to a lot of people....
Q: What did we get in return-?

We got a separate bid period adjustment period before vto lines are built because people were tired of asking for trips on their vto request only to find that the trip was not available for them because some got it on cia. (long sentence)
If you sign up for the text alerts from the union you will not miss bidding.

I agree, it IS a good deal for us because we have the Secondary Working Window.
What irks me is that when The Company was ready to implement this GOOD change before the TA vote even closed, our Negotiating Committee asked The Company to delay implementation. One member in particular told me that captains who hadn't read the TA might be caught by surprise.
If that's the worst thing that could happen to a guy who didn't read the TA ...

I'm kind of relieved to learn that changing our monthly bidding window isn't widely perceived as an insurmountable hurdle to a bunch of highly educated people who make a living flying complex machines into black holes in countries that still rely on smoke signals for communication.

I don't think this is a good thing at all. I remember years ago, we used to have separate windows - when we had a 36 hour window or something like that - and that went away I forget with which contract. It's something that never should have gone away. Now we have a lot less time to bid. If you are on a long international flight or a round-the-world trip with minimum layover time this makes it difficult to have enough quality time to look the bid over. I for one am very disappointed.
