FDX Safety reports
Recent FSR verbage:
"The NTSB has released the slide and all recorders back to FedEx.
There is no evidence that the slide malfunctioned. During the
teardown at Goodrich, it was found the slide was packed properly
and all attachments were on the aircraft properly. A cable was
intentionally cut by FedEx MX when the slide was removed from the
aircraft. There were no findings against the flight crew."
If this last sentence doesn't get you guys to **** then you're a moron. Whether you believe it or not you're putting yourself on report. I know some of youu need some kind of catharthis, but tell it to your dog

While I agree that people seem to love to put themselves on report, in this case, they evacuated the aircraft for smoke, used a slide and one of the slides malfunctioned. They had to do the safety report and everyone knew about this long before the report was submitted.

I agree. But, my point isn't about the required reports as long as it's just the facts. My point is directed more at these fools that spill their guts thinking that they are doing the pilot force a service when all they are really doing is opening themselves up for a lot of grief.
At least wait til the new system gets into place.

How about the guy six months ago that turned both himself and his F/O in for having their cell phones on during taxi. Guy wanted standards to make it a checklist item to turn off your phones. Unbelievable. We've gotten lots of laughs over that one....

I think we should make the F/O's do the safety report and end it with:
"If it wasn't for the Captains superior aviation skills and outstanding knowledge of aircraft systems, we would with most certainty have all died"

In my opinion, the whole system of Safety Reports is worthless to the pilots. I accomplish them only when necessary, and include only the bare minimum of information.
If the reports were immediately published, so pilots might be aware of things currently occurring with an airplane or airport, they might be useful. But no, they take so long to process them and publish them, that whatever problem might have been of interest to us has been long ago solved. Why do we see 16 Birdstrike safety reports in one day? Did they all occur then, or is that just the day the "birdstrike safety report guy" decides to publish them. Why do we find out about parking problems at a ramp weeks after it has been resolved? We ought to hear about those problems as soon as they are identified, so we can be more alert to them until they GET solved.
It's all eyewash, in my opinion, to make the FAA happy. I'm with Bitme on this subject -- just the facts, ma'am, just the facts.

Remember the guy who didn't think that it was appropriate for the F/O to show up at show time? He wanted everyone to come in 30 minutes early.
Between reading safety reports and listening to 131.92 (the comedy channel) you should get quite a few laughs.

That was a classic.
