Who did you talk to and what did you learn? What'd they say in the briefings?

UPS and FedEx had a strong presence there. I think both companies have pilots that are on the executive board or advisory board of OBAP. Kalitta and Ameriflight were also there. That's all I remember from the freighters. I could have missed one. Expect for the legacy carriers, If you walked by anyone and made eye contact they wanted to speak with you.

Lots of hand shaking and talking. Big 2 were doing onsite "meet and greet" discussions which for some will lead to step 2 in the process. I spent the majority of my time with UPS as that is where I want to finish my career. Everyone was upbeat about the future of the freight industry as a whole and it is my opinion the bigger operators are getting ahead of the curve somewhat.

I enjoyed the convention. It was great to see something positive in this industry for a change.

I heard Atlas did not bother to show. Can anyone confirm? Interesting because they have 19 additional Amazon airframes to staff within the next couple of years, on top of pretty decent attrition. Most of our pilots agree it won't be possible to staff the new operation with the current contract. It makes you wonder whats up their sleeve? Whipsaw mania?!?! That'll might be part of it! Gotta love the pilot's Soap Opera...

They were NOT there. And someone was tweeting about it too.

I am just curious, if you have credentials and experience, what is the point of OBAP's existence??? Maybe someone collecting money from others on a non-existent issue? Maybe someone should start a OWAP???

727574dvr, You're ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!

OBAP SERVES NO PURPOSE!

They are a USELESS ORGANIZATION that will help ONLY THOSE THAT THEY LIKE....And because they HAVE PILOTS AT ALMOST EVERY CARGO/LEGACY AIRLINE, if you DON'T KISS THEIR ASS AND THEY DON'T LIKE YOU, They WILL DELIBERATELY CONTACT HR, IF THEY KNOW THAT YOU HAVE APPLIED, AND TELL THEM NOT TO HIRE YOU!

Back in the day, The OBAP CONTINENTAL AIRLINES MEMBERS, used to maintain A LIST OF PEOPLE THAT DID SIMULATOR PREPS, conducted by A COMPANY THAT RECEIVED KICKBACKS FROM CONTINENTAL OBAP PILOTS, That List was Used AT CONTINENTAL INTERVIEWS, AND IF YOU SHOWED UP FOR A CONTINENTAL INTERVIEW, AND WERE ON THAT OBAP CONTINENTAL INTERVIEW LIST, YOU GOT SELECTED...NO MATTER HOW YOU DID ON THE SIM EVAL THAT DAY.....YOUR NAME WAS ON THE OBAP RECOMMENDED LIST....AND YOU GOT IN!

If your name WASN'T ON THAT OBAP ASSEMBLED LIST, YOU WERE NOT CONSIDERED.....EVEN IF YOU GOT, AND ATTENDED, THE INTERVIEW WITH CONTINENTAL..

I know because, when this was happening, I WAS APPROACHED BY OBAP, AS I WAS THEN A MEMBER, AND THEY TOLD ME TO GO TO THIS SIM PREP COMPANY IN DFW, AND DO THE SIM EVAL WITH THEM, AND THAT AFTER THAT, THEY WOULD PUT ME ON THE DO HIRE LIST AT THE INTERVIEW.

I told them that I COULDN'T GO BECAUSE I COULD NOT AFFORD TO BUY A PLANE TICKET TO DFW, A HOTEL FOR THE NIGHT, PAY $300.00 JUST TO GET ON THIS LIST AND THEN GO FROM THERE TO IAH FOR THE INTERVIEW.

I ended up doing a SIM PREP AT ALTEON AVIATION IN LGB AIRPORT ( CLOSER TO MY HOME AND CHEAPER), I went to the INTERVIEW, FROM MY HOME, AND BECAUSE I WASN'T ON THAT LIST....I WAS NOT HIRED.

A few Years later, A MEMBER OF OBAP, WHO WAS A CONTINENTAL AIRLINES PILOT AT THE TIME, called me up and indicated that HE WAS FILING A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST OBAP FOR COLABORATING, WITH CONTINENTAL AIRLINES, IN UNFAIR HIRING PRACTICES AS A RESULT OF THE USAGE OF THIS LIST BY OBAP!

OBAP IS A FRAUD THAT IS JUST OUT TO HAVE YOU SPEND RIDICULOUS AMOUNTS OF MONEY TO ATTEND THEIR BULL**** ANNUAL CONVENTIONS TO MAKE YOU BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE YOUR NATURAL PIPELINE TO A POSITION WITH THE CARGO/LEGACY AIRLINES BY BEING A MEMBER!

IT......AND THEIR ORGANIZATION IS PURE BULL****!

YOU CAN GET MORE DONE GOING TO A REGULAR FAPA JOB FAIR!

OBAP DEFINATELY DOESN'T HELP UP AND COMING BLACK PILOTS, MUCH LESS WHITE, OR FEMALE PILOTS.........UNLESS YOU CAN DO SOMETHING FOR THEM...OR ARE PART OF THE CLIQUE!

If you're NOT PART OF THEIR CLIQUE, FORGET TRYING TO GET A JOB THROUGH THEM!

BTW.....I am a BLACK PILOT!

Their intention is to dry lease the aircraft, see this:

Atlas Air shareholders could lose out in one-sided aircraft deal with Amazon, while Atlas executives could gain millions - The Loadstar

Potential issues with Florida West and startup 21 Air getting Amazon business?

Fairly obvious that Atlas management feels that they can make good money without flight crews, and they would do that just for spite!

Cannot tell you what flowery adjectives flood to mind to describe Atlas management's personal characteristics!
