Default Slowing growth plans...

Looks like we're tightening down on future growth. Hopefully hiring plans won't change.

Classes have already been cut back, no more for May or June.

No more after those already scheduled? Meaning two or three in May and zero in June?

According to an update posted 4/15. 4 classes in May then one each in June-August.

Financial reports are prepared weeks in advance I find it hard to believe they would post an update 5 days before the quarterly report not knowing what the pilot manning requirements are. Also if you look at the other thread regarding class dates the OP was from March and had two classes a piece in June-August.

Yeah that's why it seems strange, but that 2nd post was as if it were matter of fact.

The article doesn't say anything.

Are they cutting back on frequency? are they cutting it out of the regional side to help staffing? Are they going to park airplanes? Are they not going to fly some routes they were going to fly? Are they going to cut seats?

Last I read they are still taking all aircraft on order.

I don't get why y'all latch on to the negative news and stress over it.

That second post was from a poster who has "1" post and is factually wrong.

I'm not stressed at all, I just found it interesting. You're right though, a change in growth could happen in many different ways. Maybe it means flying more 737-700's and less RJ's (with less frequency). I think it's good to see them sticking to capacity discipline.

From Manpower Planning on 4/15:

As it stands today, there will be around 40 more
aircraft available to schedule for mainline between
now and July 2017. These aircraft are a mix of 787,
777-300ERs, 756 conversions, and narrowbodies. All
in all, our pilot block hours are expected to increase,
at this point in time by over 2.5% from July 2016 to
July 2017.
In addition, between now and June 30, 2017, 319
pilots will reach the mandatory retirement age, thus
increasing our needs. These retirements are just the
beginning of a significant retirement wave. Flight Operations is preparing and managing to. The chart illustrates
our current pilot’s retirement projections by year, for pilots currently on our roster.
By July 2017, it looks like we will need about 560 more pilots than we have today to cover our expected flying.

From Oscar today:

For the first quarter, we recorded a pre-tax profit of $688 million excluding special items, our eighth consecutive quarter of profitability and our highest first-quarter pre-tax profit ever. At the same time, we achieved diluted earnings per share of $1.23, excluding special items, an approximately 30 percent increase versus last year when adjusting for taxes - an achievement that exceeded Wall Street’s expectations

Between aircraft we have purchased and retirements there cannot be any hiring slow down...if classes are fewer in the summer (as originally planned) they will make up for it with larger classes (like they just did in Dec15 with a new hire class of 65).

I know its tuff (I was there in winter/spring 14') but be calm and keep swimming...pool with keep draining.
