Have even just 1 uniformed pilot with a picket sign stand out in front of the outstation in ABE, ONT, etc. where the ATI, ABX, Atlas crews are discharged from the hotel van and hang or tape up picket signs on the route where the crew van has to approach the outstation. A picket line can be just one person... "Hey, I'm just the first one here". During the IBT Strike in 1997, I did this in SDF with signs that I got from the IBT office and hung them up all the way down Standiford Avenue.. Also, the IPA pilots set up a van at the choke point of Standiford Lane and Standiford Avenue with a video camera, where the subcontractor crews would have to drive by the "picket line"... That gave all the other Part 135 subcontractor pilots, all with no union contracts protecting them from crossing picket lines, protection in saying that they felt threatened. If you get just one crewmember to feel "threatened", wink wink and not fly, the plane doesn't move and IBT Local 1224 gets one more battle won, also disrupting the system. It worked before and can work again.
Few subcontractors crossed, including ATI, and the UPS ramp was littered with Metros, Falcons, Lears, DC8's, etc. without pilots willing to fly UPS struck goods. This tactic proved to be a resounding success and, with even subcontractors refusing to fly, UPS capitulated and the strike ended. It was proved that even a small group of subcontractors CAN make a difference in a strike.
And get ALPA, APA, SWAPA involved too! Pilots are out there and willing to help all across the country!

After reviewing the language in my CBA (Southern or "Atlas Express"), I'm not certain that you can give the ATI pilots the legal grounds to refuse to cross an IBT picket line; however, since the status quo violation that precipitated the strike is about being shorthanded on pilots, I don't think ATSG will be able to overcome the effects of the strike by using ATI pilots. Shame on anyone (ATI) who might be picking up open time in this situation. This does highlight the need to work toward a single pilot group within ATSG.

Hey ABX Pilots,
From an outsiders standpoint, it looks like this happened pretty quickly for 1224 and without a lot of time to coordinate outstation pickets, outstation hotel security, and a definition of "Struck Work" or "Struck GOODS"..
The UPS IPA Strike Committee did all this to great success during the August 1997 IBT strike, which totally shut down all non management flying. Even the subcontractors, including an ATI DC8 on the UPS Ramp, refused to fly in a much less friendly airline hiring environment.
The IPA fought this battle and won in 1997: Someone needs to call the IPA bu quick to learn from their Strike Chairman the successful strategies that beat UPS! I know that the IPA would be more than happy to assist, even at outstations!
In Unity!

AS OF NOW, What is being heard in my office is that ALPA/ATI will not honor it because ABX wasn't released thereby making it an illegal action.
Atlas isn't affected because the routes are not interconnected but Amazon is already rerouting

Alpa is nothing more than a scared *****cat! A status quo strike is perfectly legal. You don't have to be released.
