not a prophet of doom by any means. just heard from a very close friend there that people are trying to leave en masse. theyve cancelled just about every route they have and are trying to shave cash in catering and hotels. I honestly dont know the specifics but they stopped hiring and got rid of a few management pilots

Yeah, maybe. Or maybe both are true and there a lot of people seeing the writing on the wall and bailing.
Maybe Eastern is talking about all sorts of "plans" to cover up how dire things are and give off an air of confidence and success to attract more capital and keep people from leaving. Been done before. Every airline that has folded was in the middle of some kind of exciting new plan when the money ran out.
