Yes ONT closed. The flying was for caljet. A vacation company that never really got up and going. There was no notice on this closure as well. There has been flying out of Laughlin about 2 days a week for the casinos. Right now they are trying to get more flying from the casino to make it viable to keep a plane out there. If there isn't the flying I can see them put the plane in IWA to pick up extra ICE flights. That worked really well when we had an extra plane for 2 months after Direct Air closed. Yes we haven't had 800s for 4 yrs. Not sure why that is on the website. The only reason I can think of is it shows we have been approved to fly 800s and they are still in our op specs. The Sai Pan gig was going to be 800s after a while. I haven't seen the second pay cut. There was talks of it from management, but the CP stood his ground. Yes a lot of people are getting discouraged and some have left more will thus starts the cycle of hiring more. I would think it would be a lot cheaper to just pay a little more and keep guys around rather than constantly train new guys. I am sure they have it all figured out. I was once told if someone stuck around for a year it was worth it for them. Seriously we might be hiring by the end of the summer.

Default XTRA

That makes sense, I guess. Hiring is a good thing, usually....I hope it works out for you. How do they compare to SkyKing, Falcon and Vision? Are they doing the same thing as X? If there is work at IWA, is it steady, or just occasional extra work? I will probably be moving there soon and am looking....Thanks H

I can't speak to if Xtra is better than the others. We are in CASS which helps. I don't know if the others are in CASS. I think that Falcon is not. I believe that Vision and Skyking might pay more. Falcon does some of the ICE flights out of IWA. It is a base for them. Vison and Skyking used to do ICE but I don't think that they do anymore. We are all supp 121 carriers. There is no permanent flying out of IWA as in no base. There is always talk of opening one and if that happens then there is about 8 guys that will want to be there. If you are going to be living in IWA look at aliegiant. They have a pretty big base there and you are home every night.

Just came across this topic....

CalJet End Service After Only 3-weeks..... — Civil Aviation Forum | Airliners.net

It looks like the latest contract has gone up in smoke.... any other things in the works? I know one of the 737-400s was following around AF1 during the election season. Anymore think more like that in the near future?

yep. a big shocker to management that the Mexican gov can't be taken at their word. nothing in the works that I know of except a strong rumor people express is going to buy Xtra. Will know around Friday the 1st of Feb. If that doesn't happen the CEO said staffing reductions.

That is good I guess right? I've been keeping tabs on Xtra since 2007 and IIRC you guys had 3 -400s for the longest time. How many do you have now? 5? 6?

Hopefully everything pans out.
