AFAIK they are scheduling at least two classes per month, though the class size is smaller than other carriers -- typically 14 or 15 -- due to resource availability.

The only delay I am aware of will be for the Nov 12 class, as the company is trying to get some LCAs through the sims in December as both the CPP and other attrition has taken a few more of them than expected.

The training schedule here is very fast -- about 70 days...so if you want to get to the line quickly and fly like crazy, even on reserve, this is definitely the place to be.

Ill update today after awards come out, but otherwise, here goes:

As of 12/17/2018
Red & Bold = New Information

Junior First Officer:
EWR - New Hire
IAD - 11/05/18

Using the training timeline of someone I know who started at the end of the summer, it took 103 days from the day this person started, to their first flight off of IOE.

Junior Captain*:
EWR - 11/17/17
IAD - 11/28/16

*CommutAir has CQFs. The bottom 5% of awarded Captains are CQFs by seniority. This is why there is a discrepancy between upgrade dates listed below, and junior captain date. Junior captain date listed is someone who is holding full Captain, not CQF.

The WAR report said aircraft 32 is on the list...and it’s a parts plane.

You don’t need to hire more pilots if you’re just gonna scrap your own planes.

Growth!

Reserve is getting a little longer now that hiring has picked up. We have a class of 30 starting this month as well. If you were planning on coming to commutair then you should plan on it sooner rather than later.

Now that Im more awake, Ill expand on this.

These things happen in waves. When I was hired we only had 5 people in class. That was the norm for a few months. Then suddenly we started upgrading again, and fast. We had a bunch of guys that had the time and were ready for the call. FOs started moving out of the right seat and into the left. We then had a "shortage" of FOs, but suddenly we were managing 10 people per class, twice a month. We also saw our training department make some adjustments and the pass rate shot up big time and those new hires actually made it to the line.

Now we have the issue of FOs not having the time to upgrade, so its a bit stagnant with FOs not moving to the left seat. This is why we're hiring guys and awarding them Captain within a week or 2 of starting.

I expect that the reserve time will go back and forth between 1 month and 5 months and it all depends on how movement is going. I personally did 5 months on reserve as an FO. I had a buddy hired a few months after me and he was awarded a line right out of training. The good news is that if you get in quick and have to sit reserve for a few months, youll still have junior guys to you being awarded upgrade. Those guys will still be junior to you when you upgrade and hopefully will help out in NOT having to sit reserve when upgrade happens.
