Just wrapped up training and my sim partner was awarded CA three days into indoc. Was awesome flying with him because I was able to stay in my seat as an FO for all the sim sessions. Made things SO much easier. My vote is to have more guys awarded CA in training.

Junior First Officer:
EWR - 12/17/18
IAD - 12/17/18

Using the training timeline of someone I know who started at the end of the summer, it took 103 days from the day this person started, to their first flight off of IOE.

Junior Captain*:
EWR - 12/12/17
IAD - 11/28/16
[/LIST]

Ok, so since they have CQF, that means anyone with time on station and who passes the training will get the upgrade?

Also, it’s showing EWR junior lineholder is an August hire. That mean they finished up around October, and are now on their third or fourth month I’d reserve? Why has this been going up, out of curiosity? When I interviewed in November they said “maybe one month of reserve in EWR”

Two reasons:
  1. Seasonal downturn in flying.
  2. We're getting fat on FOs but a bit short on CAs, so we can't necessarily increase lines. The $45K "street" CA bonus is already addressing the CA problem and I expect the FO:CA ratio to be largely balanced by mid-summer.
For anyone hired right now I would expect 3 months reserve in EWR by the summer. And for anyone that balks at that, by all means talk to people at Endeavor, Republic, or Envoy. I'm sure they'd put a 2-3 month reserve stint in perspective for you.

*CommutAir has CQFs. The bottom 5% of awarded Captains are CQFs by seniority. This is why there is a discrepancy between upgrade dates listed below, and junior captain date. Junior captain date listed is someone who is holding full Captain, not CQF.

Is it possible to get CQF reserve in IAD after IOE?

Kevin Garnett taught us “anything is possible”.

...But no.... IAD for captains is senior, so unless flying drastically shifts, all CQFs will be in EWR.

It’s kinda dumb, even though you can hold IAD FO, and as a CQF you are bidding as an FO, you’re seniority for CQF domicile is as a CA.

Looks like IAD CA just dropped to a seniority of 4/10/2017, they also moved a good amount of guys from EWR to IAD. So I imagine holding IAD CA wont take as long as it has been.
