C5 Pay and Contract

Don’t come till we get a new contract
It's more than just the pay that makes C5 undesirable! While the pay rates are published online, pilots and flight attendants don't get to experience the full suckiness of the company until they actually get online. The work rules are just flat out ridiculous. Reserves sit airport reserve every single day (8 hour sit/4 hours pay), because the company can't figure out how to efficiently use them. The contract has loop holes so wide you could fly an airplane through them. And the company knows and exploits those loopholes every single day. Maybe the worst part in the whole mess is that the MEC lets the company get away violating the contract on a daily basis. To say they are weak and ineffective would be an understatement. Maybe things will change as more people with previous 121 experience are eligible to vote on the upcoming contract. The previous pilot group sold out and ratified a very sub standard contract (pay and work rules) years ago to get the jets on property. But then again, judging by the pace of contract negotiations, 145s and C5 itself may be gone by the time there is anything to vote on!
Honestly I cannot encourage anyone to come here until we get at least an industry standard contract with work rules and not just pay. Let’s hope with more and more Xjet guys reaching their 1 year mark that that also puts pressure on the company.

Absolutely agree. Just look at the number of NH’s in November compared to July. One class in Nov had just TWO in it. Seniority list shrank by 30 or 40 in Dec vs Nov too.

A large percentage of those XJT guys have already left, especially the CAs. Some went to UAL thru Aviate, but a good number went to other regionals as FOs. And that includes Mesa. If that does not paint a picture, I don’t know what does!

The company sees that same numbers and knows that pilots also won't care about the next poor contract that they push out to the membership. It looks like the pilots are too busy to vote, so they will too busy to care that they don't get a decent contract as well.

I have been pushing that for years. We did get a couple of good turnouts in the past, but most of the time the pilots just don't care about voting.

With attrition about to skyrocket, every MEC will be in the same boat. Volunteers will leave for majors, their knowledge base will be lost. It takes time to build up a replacement especially in things like negotiations and safety, so by the time you have that person ready to go, they’ll have a CJO in their pocket. It’ll be a constant election cycle to replace reps leaving.
