How many 175's does Mesa own?

Mesa doesn’t own any. All their 175’s are leased from UAL.

So, UAL could move them from Mesa to another carrier, as they wish (subject to lease agreements and certificates)?

Yep, just like they moved ExpressJet’s 175’s to Skywest.

True...
1. You think C5 can undercut Mesa?
2. Even if UA decided to move the 175 away from Mesa, you honestly think they will move it to an airline that has no experience flying the 175?
3. My 2cents... if, and that is a BIG IF, Mesa were to loose the 175 flying, SkyWest and/or Republic were probably the ones to get it...

1) UAL’s criteria of what’s the best value is only known by the upper levels of the Willis Tower

2) Yes, airlines pick up new types all the time. When UAL put the 175 with both Mesa and XJT neither airline had experience with the type so…

3) This is the only valid point of your post.

Skywest can barley staff there 175 operation now. And republic has no intention to take on leased airplanes, they own every metal they fly

…OO helped bring both of those fleets online at the request of UAL.

Yes, that’s because they have an obligation to the 200 flying. We have 141 RJ200’s and 504 total aircraft at SkyWest. Once the 200’s are shifted over to the 135 operation we’ll probably have the staffing. Maybe that’s why they started the 135 operation. I know AVIATE pilots got the go ahead from United to fly at SkyWest fairly recently.

SkyWest Charter (135) listed it’s route map, it’s all United small town connection flying for now (DEN-XYZ-DEN)

That’s right UAL was going to buy and lease the last batch of 175’s to Mesa, but Mesa decided to finance the aircraft themselves instead.

And they probably would help another at the request of UAL again.
Regardless the 175 isn’t a new type and there is expertise that can be acquired for the right price.

Skywests 135 operation will only be approved if UA says yes
