A Hall For The Hopefuls

As I’m approaching meeting all Compass hiring requirements and a hopeful hire, I’m interested in hearing from other hopefuls and those who get hired. Compass is #1 on my list so I’d like to keep my finger on the pulse of the hiring temperature there.

I’m thinking this thread could be a place for the Hopefuls to exchange info about their progress in the hiring chain, and cheer on those who have made it to the Snack Box Haven.

I’m a 1440 hour ASEL pilot with much of that time in a 210 I’ve owned for a while. Should be done with my AMEL/Comm shortly. Had to switch flight schools last week due to a collapsed nose gear on their Seminole (doh!), No, it didn’t happen during my training.

I have a great mentor within Compass (you know who you are) who gives me scoops of reality and it still doesn’t scare me off. Ha.

I’m losing circulation in my fingers due to keeping them crossed so tightly that I’ll get a call for an interview once I get the AMEL/Comm.

Here is my progress:

I have all ATP mins, college degree with good gpa, everything up to date on airline apps.

Applied last Friday, no response yet. Fingers crossed, I'd be very excited to work for them.

I'm interviewing next week, hoping for a class date in November or December.

The recruiting team is staffed by 3 people and when they are busy the emails don't get answered immediately.

Be patient, but definitely email them. I submitted my airlineapps profile and got a phone call about 430 PM CST that day, right before they went home for the day. I got a phone call at 8 am CST the next day (6 am my time...).

Granted, I'm over 1500 and meet all the reqs. All I need is a ticket to MSP for training, a hat to never wear and directions to the burrito shack at LAX.

I've been lurking for a while. This topic is pertinent enough that I should probably end my lurking phase and say hello. I've been enjoying following the saga. You all are a lot of fun.

I started flying as a hobby in the mid 90's and went through instrument and multi-commercial thinking that I might undertake a career change someday. Now I'm in my late 40's and thinking that if I ever want to experience the airline pilot life for myself, the window is closing. You only live once and all that.

I have 950 hours total with the other ATP requirements are met. I'm not R-ATP eligible so I'm working towards 1500 TT. My day job is largely contract based and the work is slowing down, so I've had time to get out and fly a lot lately.

I dream of being a 1440 hour pilot! Those last few hours would go very quickly. Congratulations on being so close!

Welcome! I know 1440 should feel close but it still seems so far away. I’m sure I’ll feel a lot closer once the check ride is behind me. Nonetheless, I’ve been having a great time flying my a$$ off lately. :)

I've been with Compass for around 2 months. I was a CFI for a year after graduating a 141 program and got hired at 975 hours. I finished instructing with 1001 before going to the ATP CTP course.

When I was hired I got a class date immediately, a friend of mine who got an offer earlier this month got a class date in September so I would recommend interviewing early, your offer is good for 6 months. At the interview they told me they could take you 25 hours shy of your ATP requirement.

So far no big complaints. The HR side of things is quite disorganized and expect to get your flights/hotels the day before or day of only after emailing someone constantly.

Training is going great. Every instructor I've had has been awesome. The training is the typical firehouse you hear about but not terribly difficult. The firehouse doesn't start until week 2 with the FMS programming.

My recommendation is to have the preflight flows memorized by the SITs and have been working pretty heavily on the other flows too. Memory items should also be pretty much memorized by the 2nd SIT.

By the FPTs you need to be able to do the flows by memory with occasional screw ups you can ask for help with. The FPTs just changed recently and the new training outline is much easier I hear, but guys are still unsating them and being held back. They will not spoon feed you. They will expect you to show up for your 1st FPT having done a lot of the ground work learning the flows and callouts.

The first 2 weeks of training are consecutive, then you typically get a week off. 1 week back on for SITs then another week off. This seems to be the pattern across the board because of a lack of instructors and IPT/sim availability but I'm not complaining.

Training events are spread out between Minneapolis, Dallas, and St Louis for now since there are a lot of us in training at the moment.

Overall great place to be. All the people I've met are fun, funny, and there's a real family vibe within the workgroup. The jumpseat observations were a ton of fun and I am super excited to fly the guys on the line.
