Default CPZ Master Grievance Settlement

An excerpt is provided below:

The ALPA Compass MEC has reached a settlement agreement with Compass which closes out all remaining grievances and issues, including the Javits arbitration award, pays pilots, and cuts any remaining ties between ALPA and Compass Airlines.

Initially, and to no one’s surprise, Compass had no interest in discussing any monetary compensation to the pilots as a result of outstanding grievances and other issues related to the shutdown. After having to threaten Compass with litigation to compel them to bargain over outstanding grievances and the value of the Javits award, they relented and agreed to a discussion regarding outstanding items.

The MEC pursued contractual violations caused by both the PBS system and the IOCC system through two grievances that affected each pilot on property, some going back to 2016. While Compass drew this issue out to the very end, the Association persevered and received an award from arbitrator Javits in May of 2020.

Given the shutdown and citing limited assets, Compass indicated an intent to enter bankruptcy and then advised each of its creditors that it would only pay 50% of amounts owed. Through several months of back-and-forth negotiations, the MEC was able to get Compass to agree to pay 65% of the value owed.

Your individual award amount will vary depending on your base, position, date of hire, date of separation with the Company and which grievances you were apart of. Payments will come via direct deposit or via check in the mail. Additionally, the ALPA Executive Council approved to waive dues on this settlement payment.

....

A huge Thank You to our Chairman/Custodian Thomas Vanden Berg, the entire Compass MEC, and ALPA, for putting forth this tremendous effort for the entire Compass Pilot Group!

Awesome news! Speaks volumes that your Alpa volunteers were willing to ride it out to the end. Seems like you all had a great group over there, and I hope that attitude will spread at the other companies you ended up at.

How small could this payment be for someone who quit in 2016? Trying to decide if it’s legit enough to give ALPA my bank info.
