There was already a Bart station close to the old hotel. Along with starbucks, Chinese food, cvs, Safeway, Mexican market, and downtown San Mateo. But some people couldn't be bothered to walk more than 10 minutes. Net loss in my opinion leaving the Marriott.

Have you been to the Embassy Suites? Right on water, free made to order breakfast, managers reception at night and within walking distance of tons of options.

I assumed we were in Burlingame on the water... too bad, nice trails and ambiance. Embassy Suites are great though. Its worth repeating great breakfast, free drinks/snacks in the evening, every room has fridge and microwave. Looks like its shorter van, and closer to the city. South SFO looks close too, I've had some good food in them parts
