I dont know if we changed our hiring mins, I highly doubt we did. But as long as new hires start class with 25 multi (actual time), the 25 you get in the sim during training counts towards the 50 for the ATP.
A guy in my class had that same question. He started with 25.3 or something like that.
However, he had his written done before the deadline. So no ATP-CTP course or whatever that new BS is. That could very well be the reason why 25 was ok for him, and not for people who dont have the written yet. I dont know what is required for that new ATP written course.

No it's not. In 2006 people were getting hired at 300TT and 25 multi with the ink still wet in their commercial, and they all did great. I'd rather fly with those guys than most of the gems I get now who spent the past 2 yrs flying VFR in a 172 over pipelines trying to hit that magic 1500, then needed 3-4 IOE trips before being signed off.

Hmm. I wouldn't necessarily harp on people with less experience requiring more than the allowed IOE. Compass only gives you 25 hours whereas other regionals give you around 40. Coming from the CFI or Aerial Survey world flying single engine props into an E175 is a pretty substantial if not overwhelming transition - and to measure a pilot's ability/skill based on how fast he got done with IOE is not kosher in my book. The majority of Compass new hires today versus last year are CFIs and we're seeing less and less lateral movers from other regionals as time goes by.

My point is, 25hrs of multi shouldn't worry anyone. 1000hrs vs 10 hrs of multi is all but the same in my book if an engine was never lost. Heck, the 10hr guy will probably be quicker on the recovery since training is still fresh in his mind.

Fixed it for ya. No charge.
So you're banking on never losing an engine. That's solid flight planning.

I'm saying the guys who had 300TT/25ME did just as well, if not better than, the 1500TT/25ME folks we get today.

The point is....we aren't hired so much for how we can perform under normal circumstances so much as how we can perform under abnormal circumstances.
I'm surprised I have to point that out to anyone.
Exactly.
It is amusing anyone even attempts to debate this.

Freight pilots are less likely to stall the plane turning base in LAX. Anyone who defends low experience doesn't see the big picture. Can a 200 hr pilot learn normal procedures just as well if not better than the guy with experience? Sure, but that's not the point. Colgan anyone?
