Really? It's bad enough that guys are tripping over themselves to pick it up at 150%, but to beg for it while out of base and on reserve? Embarrassing.

Why is that embarrassing? Maybe the guy just wants to fly instead of sitting around doing nothing like most do....cut the guy some slack for actually wanting to work

It's selfish. It helps no one but that person. Scheduling would have checked if any reserves were legally available per the contract. So you're going outside of the contract and setting bad precedent for everyone else. You're also allowing them to continue to run in an understaffed situation.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't anyone who picks up any open time for 150% only help that person out?

I live out of base and am on reserve. If I can get flying instead of sitting reserve or possibly burning my hotel rooms by the 2nd week of the month, I'll be proactive 100% of the time. I know of several guys/gals that live out of base who try to secure flying to avoid sitting reserve and I say go for it. I don't touch OT, but if someone wants to, as long as we're not in negotiations or have furloughs, that's their prerogative. My .02.

You can justify it any way you'd like, but in the end it hurts our pilot group and weakens our bargaining position. What about the captains that live in Seattle but haven't been drooling over their phone? Why not give them a chance to respond?
If they need a reserve assigned to the trip, they'll make sure that happens.
