Anybody know how we go about signing up for the ALPA interview workshop in LA?

I see some senior guys with only 15 days off. They need to learn how to bid.

I think most senior folks know how to bid just fine. Everyone bids for what they desire. Less days off only means they had more parameters limiting their pairing pool or wanted more credit. Dont get me wrong, there are folks who have been here years that still dont get how to do it. Read the PBS guide and have it open when you bid. You learn quick. Thats all I can say.

For me, total days off is all I care about. Me and a classmate of mine are one number from eachother. I routinely have the same hours or slightly more as him but 2 or so less working days because I dont bid for commutable trips and dont mind 5 day trips. He on the other hand doesnt want 5 day trips, and bids for fairly late report times/early release times.

Koolaid is strong this time of year.
This "Memo" was regarding which 175 bases would get DL bennies and that's it. Latest update I've seen is all DL 175 deliveries for the rest of the year are going to SEA. No mention of LA or any other base for that matter.

Link here. If that does not work go to ffd.alpa.org > career progression > interview workshops

4000 total hours. 750 part 121 SIC at a regional. Concerned my regional may not be upgrading and even if they are, reserve could be a long time.
Considering a lateral move. If hired by Compass, how long before I could bid CA? And how long on reserve?

You would be able to bid for Captain after 250 more hours of 121 SIC time. Now you more than likely will not be able to hold Captain though. Probably just over a year from hire date before you'd be able to hold it.

Thx. So yeah, I understand I need the 1000 SIC 121 time- and that is be most junior captain for some time (since those senior to me would keep getting their time and pushing me down the seniority list)
But you're saying I'd still be looking at a year before I could even bid it? They require x number of hours w/ the company or something?

No, but a lot of the FO wave from the huge hiring a year and a half ago are getting their time and they'll be taking most of the upgrade spots from here on out unless the upgrade classes are larger than people get their time. Plus, still a few bypassed people taking it in every class, and if CA bids are 12-20 a month probably only a couple of spots that bypassers may sneak in. Basically, if you get on and bypass, lucky you but it's never a guarantee. Additionally, it could be 5-6 months before you're done with training and IOE and actually get the other 250 hrs you need to upgrade and predicting anything that far out in this game is tough to do.
If the bases work for you, it's a good lateral move perhaps but I wouldn't come on property right now expecting less than an 18 to 24 month upgrade.

A year? He'd be entering the absolute bottom of the list of 800+ pilots at a time when Compass has slowed down hiring to only 20 a month and that's for attrition. I'd say 18 months at least to hold CA, and another 3- 6 months to get a decent line, which adds up to 2 years but that is probably how long he'd be on reserve as an FO anyway at his old airline - so still pretty good.

Spring 2015 hires are now just getting their 1000 SIC and it'll just continue to work itself down the list at a steady rate. What used to be the era of "quick upgrades" at Compass will only come back if we get more airplanes/flying.
