Oh man..this is classic. I had a SKW jumpseater up front at my last carrier and he told the CA and I that he was "on the 9" in SLC. We both stared at him and didn't say a word. "What...???"...he said. Should've kicked him out.

I have been on the jumpseat 5 times total either going to work or coming home in well over a year of commuting from PHX. Have never missed 2 flights to need the commuter clause. Not that bad.
There are a lot of us at Compass commuting from Phoenix. I'd guess 50 at least from Compass alone, maybe more as we're getting more new hires every month. You have literally hundreds more from all other airlines, mostly United, Delta, AA, Alaska, Virgin, Jet blue and Skywest, to name a few. There are many flights a day ranging anywhere from 25 to as many as 35, depending on season and day of the week. Compass operates some, but it changes monthly. Last year we had few to none for most of the year, now we have 4 a day, but we lose them all in December. It all depends on Delta's "mood" and changes frequently. Overall it's easy when flights are light, it's a nightmare when they fill up. Summer can be tough, holidays can be bad, spring break is awful. I remember being bumped 7 times in the row following a large group of commuters from terminal to terminal in LAX watching one plane after another push with all jumpseats filled up while more pilots show up each time. On the positive note, the flight is short and it's easy to predict the loads, so if it looks bad, get the commuter hotel and get in a night earlier. Overall, I've done 2 much longer commutes from PHX eastbound, and LAX is significantly better, but far from perfect. Hope it helps.

Can you elaborate?
I too am looking at Compass, and live in Arizona. So nuggets of information like this are - not sure of the word - concerning / interesting/ noteworthy, ... etc.
Thanks

Prc,
Every "regional" is contracted to fly mainline routes. That being said, what he meant was our routes change. Just like every other regional and mainline even. Especially during the winter and holiday seasons. Most of our routes are year round, some like phx, are not. So just because Compass does 4 a day right now, doesnt mean we do it all year long.
Make sense?

I wouldn't of thought that PHX LAX was that 'seasonal'.
Thanks for the info.

also factor in--- we heard from management during training that some of our planes are do for heavy Mx in the fall. so Skywest will fly some of the routes we were flying while those planes are down.
