In my past 2.5 years with this company there has never been a problem with bidding. What has changed in the past few months? New people in st. Louis trying to do the jobs that should be done in building C? My sense of contentment with this airline has gone away since all the former Compass people flowed to DL.

Isn't crew planning, scheduling and whatnot one of the infrastructures to a smooth airline operation? What do they think is gonna happen if they keep this up? Why are these epic miscues continuing in the non flying jobs?
We get calls when a plane leaves 3 mins late due to who knows what, that is out of our control, yet the foundation of the operation does stuff like this and just sends out an email saying "sorry, but we don't know when PBS will be back up and running". This is unacceptable now. Last month, I thought nothing of it as tech issues do happen. But now? No. Something must be seriously amiss in the offices for this to happen 2+ months in a row now.

Yep. Just posted on FB: "As you are all well aware, the PBS process has been delayed yet again. ALPA finds the continuing failure of the company to comply with the contractually-dictated timeline unacceptable. We will add this to a grievance that will be filed shortly relating to the previous PBS contractual violations that have repeatedly occurred over the past few months."
Glad we're doing something.

I just don't understand it. Why.

i was told that basically the whole Crew Planning department is basically gone, and that now we have people from other departments basically piecing everything together. If anyone knows more of the facts please chime in, I was told this had a lot to do with Rosholt, and that this mess with crew planning is one of the reasons why he is now gone

So ALPA sent out an email and FB saying they are adding this PBS issue to the "grievance"....clearly the company nor ALPA can get their crap together as this is at least 4 months now that I can count that we have had this PBS issue. What is the pint of grieving this? What will be the outcome? Will we get more days off, better schedule or a damn schedule released at the exact time they say we are supposed to get it? This is a freaking joke now boys n girls! At this point, I vote paper bidding! Bye Felicia!

You know they don't just grieve it and the company says 'aw shucks, a grievance? ok!" and it's all fixed right away... don't you? I'm glad we're grieving it and holding their feet to the fire a little bit, but whatever has changed within crew planning and the inexperience isn't gonna get fixed overnight, sadly.

Obviously it won't get fixed overnight, that's a given. But I question what we as the pilot group will gain out of this grievance...

I'm sure it'll be underwhelming. A few hours of pay credit, a compensatory vacation day, or something else we've been working on resolving with the company actually getting handled in exchange for dropping this. But what other mechanism do we have to enforce the contract? ... We don't. It hopefully sets things in motion where this stops happening, and reminds the new guys of the deadline.
Look, I'm empathetic. Everybody in crew planning quit, and new guys are brought in from St Louis to try to run some archaic system that involves loading in text files, and everybody's ****ed at you because stuff keeps going poorly while you're trying to even load the system. I feel bad for Paul because I assume he's got limited resources and is trying to do the best job that he can. And I'm sure the PBS committee was trying to give the company the benefit of the doubt, if awards are 15 min late the first month, OK, what are we really gonna get and is it worth messing with the relationship with the company.. there's give and take. But it is a quality of life issue and for me I'm not inclined to give them nearly as much leeway when it keeps happening over and over again... I understand there are challenges but surely there is a way to throw manpower at the issue and get started with the bid packet a few days earlier so you are SURE you hit the deadline... after all, this is the same PBS we've had in place for years. Our contract language is very weak in many places and many of the 'violations' are hard to hold their feet to the fire, so this is one area where it's crystal clear and maybe we have a little leverage versus a violation that's a little weaker and grey area...
For me too, part of that firestorm is when CS sends out a msg like "Ugh." it makes me way less motivated to give them any kind of leeway. It's not good for morale, let's leave it at that.

I never thought I would say that I miss Mark N., but for as unpleasant as he was, PBS ran like clockwork when he was in charge. Bids opened, closed, and posted on schedule to the minute. I heard that the guy that ran the bids last month had about three weeks in his position, and had never even seen an award run before. There is no way we can have this kind of brain drain in SOC and keep things running smoothly. Better pack for 2 weeks on the road when we (if) we switch to the LIDO dispatch/scheduling software. There is no telling how long we will be parked out of base.
