Charter Pilot Pay Structure
I'm wondering if you folks can tell me how charter pilots get paid. Is it a salary you get paid regardless of how many flights you do, or is it a per flight basis? Or is it something else? Thanks in advance!

Most people get paid a salary.
One joint I talked to wanted to pay me a LOW salary plus a per-day rate AND mileage on top of that. Great deal if you fly a lot...real, REAL bad if you don't.
I courteously declined their offer to interview.

It's all different. In my area most are paid a day rate. Some are salaried, some are paid by the hour.

Most short term guys are paid a daily rate depending on the equipment and experience level of the pilot. Some guys charge a fly rate and a standby rate. If you get a longer term contract deal sometimes salaries can be worked out.

I was a salary guy at my past 135 company, but there were also contract guys that had other sources of income and just did it part-time and fill-in work. I know some freight op's sometimes pay by the mile too.
I did get a nice little cash bonus if we did any additional trips over the weekend.
