Red face Do you know of a Job in Washington state?

There are a bunch of us out of work pilots up here in the northwest looking for jobs.

I am one of them, and am looking for any help I can get on a possible job lead. I have a little baby at home and while spending time with the family has been great, the ramen noodle is running low.

I'm praying for something in the aviation world, but after looking for the last year... I am willing to take anything.

Just like many others I search the websites daily and drop off resumes weekly. I know the economy is tough, but here in the northwest it is scarce!

Outside of aviation I look like the biggest tool when applying for an average job. The big problem is that I have spent the last ten years in aviation, so when I pass my resume out (even the dumb-down version) I am told that I have no experience or am over qualified.

If anyone who reads this and has an opening or has a friend that might have an opening, please email me and I will send you a resume.
I have around 4000 hours, including Airline, Charter, Jet, CFI and Skydive.
I can learn to do pretty much anything if given the chance.

Thanks All

Jake

Hey Captain Jack,

I agree, it's really tough finding anything outside of aviation. It's a real challenge to get an interviewer over the psychological roadblock "But he was an airline pilot.... why would he want to do anything else?!?!"

I don't have any leads for ya, but wanted to let you know that I empathize. But we know what empathy doesn't buy ramen....

Default Pilot Employment

We need USMCFLYR here to pep you up. He will tell you how pilots skills are highly desired by industries outside of aviation.

As for myself I have to agree that it is difficult to find work outside of aviation as a pilot. Employers look at you as if you have two heads. My advise is to tell a white lie if you have too. Put your past employers down on your resume but do not advertise that you were a pilot. Use a term like "advanced systems technician" or "flight deck manager".

Consider going back to school.

Who is USMCFLYR? and what industries is he talking about? Because I am apparently not a "desirable applicant" for any department at Home Depot.
Can't go back to school, Sallie Mae already calls me daily. But thanks for the tips. I like advanced systems technician, I wonder if anyone is hiring for that// ha

USMCFLYR is a dear friend of mine who posts here on APC. He is about to be separated from the Marines and has been told that pilots are well received by employers. He is a ray of sunshine when it comes to issues like this one. I am a bit more cynical. We all could use his bright light from time to time. Hopefully he shows up soon.

I have been laid off a few times now as a pilot and have first hand experience with another side of that issue. Employers have a bad association with the thought of hiring pilots. The only way out of it is to leave the pilot stuff out of your resume.

Try applying at a different Home Depot but leave all the pilot stuff out. Say that you were a ramper.
