stay or not to stay?? college student need help
Corporate is what i want to do. i go to riddle...enough said. i have my pp before i went to riddle and recieved my instrument at riddle....bad experience with the training department. about to enter my sophmore year and i decided i'm not flying at riddle but at a off campus flight school. i'm going to go for my single engine commerical then after that get my multi commerical. now my family is really good friends with a well respected cheif pilot. he sat down with me for 4 hours and said, "you don't need a 4 year degree, get a 2 year degree, fly your ass off, and get the 4 year later in life". "sell my self, get what ever i can get my hands on, stand down at the airport with a sign saying 'will fly for free for time', banner towing, sky diving, just to build hours" this is replayed in my head over and over and over from what he said.
haven't got much sleep over the past couple of days. i'm about to head back to riddle for another expensive year of tution.
i know its my decision but what do you guys think? finish off this year with my single and multi commerical and fly anything i can get to or stay with riddle and get the most expensive piece of paper i'll ever recieve in my life?

I didn't say to buy a Lear, nor did I make any reference to any money you may or may not have. I was merely pointing out my disdain for pilots willing to fly for free "just for the experience." If you're flying a buddy's plane for kicks, that's one thing. But undercutting other pilots for a job is not the way to go.

I left the university with one semester to go to complete my bachelor's degree in 1998. I've been half heartedly doing correspondence courses on and off to finish ever since. Once real life starts intervening, finishing college can be challenging. If you think a 4 year degree is in your best interest (it usually is), the sooner you do it the better. You can instruct while in college.
As is stated over and over in this forum, a degree with which you can get a job outside aviation is best. We're all just one medical away from seeking a new career.

As a Riddle grad, Fall Class of '87, my advice would be to go to DBCC get an Associate's Degree and continue your training. If I'm not mistaken, DBCC is much more cost effective than Riddle. Now, once you get hired as an instructor build your time. Afterwards, when you are hired as a pilot, complete your BS degree requirements at a local college where you are working.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes & blue skies.

Check out American Military University - get a degree in something that interests you and you'll have a better time / get better grades.
At least you have the balls to see you are being taken for a ride at ERAU.
Don't fly anymore, finish the 4 year, then attend ATPs - you come out ahead in the end.
