Get the Hilton Honors citi card and the Marriot rewards credit card. It will help you rack up the points in a hurry. Only downside is I only want to eat at the Hotel to get the extra points so I can vacation for free.

The Hilton Q3 promotion is pretty lousy. I have 16 stays so far this year. Gonna be tough to get diamond by year end at this rate.

While we are speaking about the best places to stay - let's talk breakfast!
I think that the Homewood Suites, the Embassy Suites, and the name brand Hiltons seem to have the best breakfasts while the HGI seems to the worse.
How about those afternoon manager's specials? Who has the best food, free drinks, etc...?
Which hotels will allow th use of the hotel van to take you to dinner and pick you up?
I know when I use to work at the Sheraton - I was actually not suppose to do any outside trips other than those to/from the airport; but those airline crews never missed a dinner out while I was on duty

Used to use an AMEX with Hilton (when I was at airlines), got a few stays free, but since I started the latest gig (corporate) we only do Marriotts unless there aren't any at our RON. I like getting the Marriott points (I am Platinum Elite so we get a lot) so I can get stuff on the marriott mall/skymall. Pay all expenses on the road and all my personal stuff too on that card so the points just add up like crazy.

Don't need hotel points for hotel stays as I don't take vacations. Not sure if Hilton cards offer points for anything other than hotel stays or miles, but I have no desire to travel on my days off so why would I want deals on hotels/airlines?

Just stayed at the Hilton Daytona Beach and it was a real dump. Only stayed there because it was on the beach, and of course with crummy Florida weather it was overcast.

Guess it just depends on what you value, points, miles, or whatever. I think both chains have to pretty close to the same quality/service since they are direct competitors.

I have heard that the Hyatt Starwood membership is pretty good too.

The Marriott Rewards credit card has an annual fee...no thanks.

As for breakfast, I have no problem with HGI - eaten at the "Great American Grill" more times than I can count and never been disappointed. Though I do prefer Embassy Suites breakfast, that is when its not overrun by screaming girl scouts or a soccer team or other group of loud, poorly-chaperoned children.

New/renovated Courtyards also have a very good breakfast...

It is only $65. Subtract that from the thousands of dollars in points you get back and it is meaningless.

Ya know, I've thought about that.

BUT...its still a philosophical thing for me.

Besides, road expenses go on the company AMEX so personal stuff is all I'd be able to use for it. And I don't spend nearly enough each year to earn "thousands of dollars in points".

Isn't it HGI that has the cheese omeletes thst taste like they are made out of powered eggs I like those made to order omeletes and sit down service!
It seems that you have had the same experiences that I have had at many places through with the groups of girls especially. My last trip it was a cheerleading competition LORD HELP ME!
