On- Cleared for takeoff
Off- when climb power set/ unless very bumpy
On- when on approach
Off- when clear of runway

On- anytime I suspect turbulence

I agree that corporate passengers are smarter than the average airline passenger.
They know that anytime the seat beat sign is on during cruise, they better be sitting down. Most of the time, my passengers are busy with their paperwork.

If it's bad enough that I tell our FA to sit down, then I would make sure that the passengers are seated as well. Otherwise, I consider them advisory in nature for our passengers, with the exception of below 10,000'.

That said, it's never been an issue for me. The pax are smart enough to stay seated.

As a side note, we turn the signs off during the night on international flights when the passengers are sleeping since they shine down on the beds in the back of the plane.

I've been doing ON when cleared on the runway, OFF through ten, ON when cleared for approach.

I've usually got three or four on board, and can't check on them really during flight (single pilot). Good group though; our President likes to ride up front when alone.

We leave ours on all the time, but we cycle it to "ding" them for takeoff and landing or when we expect turbulence.
