Memphis Area Corporate Pilots
#12
Well, this looks like a post I could have written 20 years ago...LOL! My dad was an original, low four digit, paid for his own Falcon type rating, no bachelor degree, FE guy. You would think I would be a shoe in for a nepotism complaint, but I was not. The multi engine turbine PIC is the kicker with the FedEx mins. After getting about 2100 hrs with 1700 multi turbine in 121 and 135, I decided to talk with one of the Corporate FedEx guys about getting a slot. I don't remember his position, but his name was Milo High.....(great pilot name!). He told me to go get on with Airlink, work there a couple of years and then get back with him. I was taken down a couple of notches. I had been flying the rich and famous in B200's, Hawker 700's, LR35 and 25 for 6 years, and he was telling me to go fly an RJ for 18k a year (back then) for several years and then get back with him. My best advise is to get on with a regional now, get the PIC multi turbine, then talk to FedEx. The corporate world in MEM is VERY slow for time building.

LastTrain, was it the same Milo High that flew N880EP (aka the Lisa Marie) for a time? If so that was pretty awesome to meet the man that flew the King!

Ron Strauss and Elwood David, along with Milo, were also pilots for EP when he had the Lisa Marie and Hound Dog II in MEM. Sorry for the thread drift to the OP
but one of the King's pilots was mentioned and the guys that did it are few! Best of luck for your corporate job search!

My father knew Milo and said he was "quite a character". I didn't know about him flying The King. That is pretty awesome. A lot of those old hat, locals from Memphis were flying The King and Jerry Lee way back. I have met a couple that have "claimed" they did. Who knows? Heck, I was in Signature in Memphis years ago waiting on passengers when Jerry Lee and his band showed up to fly out for a show. The Capt I was with said he used to fly Jerry Lee and hated it. Jerry would turn on the WeatherChannel and see a storm warning in say, Oklahoma and they would be going to Arizona, and JL wouldn't show up. Scared of the bad wx. He also said to "settle JL and the band down" they would turn the cabin up. They were all heavy smokers, so they would all fall asleep.

this is spot on!!!!!!!!! I have flown Jerry Lee several times and hope I never do again. The man is very scared of weather.

Milo was a very nice guy. I flew with him a few times in his Stearman he kept up at Charles Baker. The man had stories that never ended it was always a treat to be around him and try to soak up some of his experience. He passed a couple of years ago and is missed greatly. The corporate scene in MEM is very tough and kind of a good ole boys club to get into. I flew a Citation II part 91 for awhile out of Wilson and even being in the club it was still very tough.
