A few years back, we flew Keith Urban back to SMO from a concert (and hung out with his band before & after the show). Me and the other oil it's ex-wives were big fans, and he autographed some Jepp charts for them for us. His idea, not ours, but OK! Good Wx, so didn't need the charts

I flew Bobby Knight a couple years ago in a Cherokee 6. Nice guy and very down to earth. You would never know he was famous, rich, or had a tendency to yell. He was awesome.

30+ years ago I was flying F/O on a Lear 23 for a part 135 company out of BOS. We had Dan Fogelburg on board to go all the way from BOS to BDL for a concert that night. We had to wait from about 6pm until midnight in BDL, then return him to BOS. We tried to say Hi, he ignored us. We asked if he needed anything (Drinks, food, etc.) he ignored us. A complete tool. He never once said a word to us, and there were only the 3 of us there!

Took Alice Cooper to a concert, GREAT GUY! Funny, talked to us non stop, loves Budwiser and golf. Just a normal guy, he said all that other crap (hair, makup, etc.) was just for the show. Complete opposite of Fogleburg.

Took Aerosmith on a 3 week tour. Fun guys but they stiffed our company and it was months before they got paid. My dad flew Jimmy Carter for his Pres. campaign, same thing, the company didn't get paid until after he was elected President.

Later, flying for Delta, had Larry Bird (Boston Celtics) on board going BOS to Bermuda, he refused to sign a Celtics hat for a 10 year old kid when I pointed him out to the kid. I told the F/A's to spit in his drink for me, they said, "Oh, yeah, he's always an azzhole to his fans."

Had Huey Lewis on board, I had my guitar with me so as he was deplaning, I showed it to him and asked if he had is harmonica with him, he lifted up his brief case and said, "Yeah! Right here! Let's Jam!" He was funny and very nice.

Had Ted Williams and his kid on board one day going BOS-BGR. They had seats in coach. Before pushback I walked back to him and told him we had empty seats in First Class, and it would be my pleasure to move him and his son up to F/C.

He said thanks, but we are fine here (they had an empty seat between them). After landing he was the last one off, and stopped to shake hands and talk to us. I said I just wanted to thank him for what he did in WW2 and Korea, he said that's why he always flies Delta, because we treated him so nicely. A class act to the very end.

Had Pete Rose on board out of CVG right after his betting scandal broke. I told the head F/A to go back and ask Pete what the odds were that we would make it to ATL on time.... She didn't get it.

Had Hank Arron on, he refused to talk to any white people, me included, when I went to tell him I had bought his hitting book for my son. Tool.

Had the Coral Reefer Band on board out of Sydney to LAX, Jimmy Buffet was supposed to be there too, but he had fallen off the stage at the concert in SYD and was still in the hospital. I talked with the lead guitar player, Peter Meyer, for quite a while. Great guy. Check out his web site.

People are people; some are great fun, some not so much.

I took one guy and his girlfriend from Boston up to Bangor, on the way up he bets us $100 we can't get a grease job on the landing. I guess the tool didn't know Bangor has a SAC runway, 12,000' long.

We made sure we milked it the last 5 feet and it was a grease job...then he tried to get into his limo without paying us the $100!!

I had to remind him, "How did you like that landing?"

His girlfriend helped too!

"Honey, PAY THEM the $100! That was the best landing ever!!"

Bless her heart! He paid us, but he wasn't real happy about it!

Timbo, that's very common for political campaigns at any level. John Glenn's, for example, didn't pay off completely until 2007, and I expect some portion of that was "forgiven". You all were lucky to get paid. Were I dealing with a campaign, I'd require advance payment - in cash.

Yeah, that's what I heard. I also heard that had he lost, he probably wouldn't have paid at all! I guess that happens a lot too. Fkng politicians.

Oh, speaking of which, flew Teddy Kennedy from BOS to a graduation speech in Ohio, a total dick. Nothing was good enough for him. The Lobster was too cold, the champagne was too warm, etc. and of course that's the pilot's fault....

It's all about the food and the landings.

Yeah, I flew for a mom and pop 135 outfit, and they did NO political work unless paid in advance. They learned that one the hard way. Speaks well of our politicians/central planners.
