Random discussion amongst some friends the other day - guy interviewed with corp flight dept a couple of weeks ago and was told they would let him know within a week. He hasnt heard anything from them, so accounting for holidays and all, what is the proper etiquette on when or if to contact them for his status? He doesnt want to possibly **** them off by calling and the position has not been filled as far as he knows. I told him to wait, but now wonder what the book says to do?

The holidays will slow the process a little, plus there could be some decision makers that are away for vacation or busy with other projects. I generally wait a week after the time limit that they told me.
If it has been 2+ weeks after the interview, I say your friend should do a polite follow up. There is nothing wrong with that.
