Of course he doesn't. Anyone who likens this to highway deaths has their head buried so far (use your imagination) that they can't fathom that this isn't like anything they have seen in their lifetime. It's all a liberal hoax to get Trump yada yada. THIS ISN'T ABOUT TRUMP, the person.

As a liberal, I was resigned to the fact that we were all but guaranteed to get 4 more years of him. I would give half my remaining 401k to go back in time to that wet market and put that poor ugly Chinese armadillo out of its misery before it could start this absolute CF.

Holy whataboutism. And a purely hypothetical one at that.

I've got 3 family members in healthcare, Dr. and 2 nurses. In the past, they talk about people dying like you and I talk about flying a Cat 3 to mins. Now, they're very concerned. Nobody has a clue where this is going. Very contagious and more deadly than a flu. The vacine may not work for everybody.

I've got two friends who are nurses, one in respiratory therapy. You wanna have a dark conversation, just ask them what they're seeing on the front lines each day. It ain't pretty.

I know 2, direct work with the most severe patients. Both say this is all completely blown out of proportion.

People still say the same thing about Y2K. Fact is, a ton of effort and planning and money went in to preventing catastrophe back then, such that most people perceived Y2K as much ado about nothing. I know some engineers who worked on (and solved) problems most people would never have considered before or since. Corrections are working now to make this feel like an overreaction. It's at enormous cost, but I think at the time being the costs are necessary.

I agree with you, but to borrow your analogy, Hank is saying he has family members that are witnessing Y2K firsthand and it IS everything everyone is making it out to be.

When can we get back to blaming all of our problems on Pelosi and McConnell....you know....the good ole days!

Yup. My physician spouse feels the same way.

the driving analogy comes into play.

we accept 40,000 people will die each year with speed limits set where they are. We don’t demand 20 mph on highway even though it would be tremendously safer.

with this thing look at years of potential life lost vs say H1N1 that killed near 5000 kids under age 4, and 22000 age 5-24.... and we never mentioned closing daycares or schools.

we can be very selective in our panics

and fwiw I know a few 70+ year olds that are like f this, I’m going out.

40,000 people in a year? FTB, how many people have we lost in the last 30 days -- WITH mitigation? LIke 25,000+?

We are at the point where we are losing almost 2,000 people a day and rising -- WITH mitigation.

If 2,000 people a day (and increasing) were dying in car accidents, I'm pretty sure they would lower the speed limit. No?
