Last year same day was Christmas Day, I believe.
That is correct. I find near fix date holidays it maybe better to compare same dates YoY and not same weekdays YoY.

so that said Dec 23rd 2020 vs Dec 23rd 2019 was 47.8%.

Regardless, good numbers to see. And with yesterday being 1,191,123 I believe that exceeds the highest TSA throughput we've had since the beginning of Covid (previous high was 1,176.091 on 11/29). It will be interesting to see what the numbers look like for 12/24 and 12/25.

What are predictions for today and tomorrow? Anybody think we see south of 700,00?

Also, with a Friday Christmas, I think Saturday and Sunday airports may have a bit of the “evacuation of a major city” feel that hasn’t been there for a long time, but with only 30% of restaurants open.

I think a rolling seven day average around the holidays is best.

I believe what’s of significance beyond the percentages is the totals of those willing to travel. Thanksgiving was a warning. People saw the “fallout” and the HUGE SPIKES, and hear every media outlet urging people not to travel. Despite those odds, the most people that have traveled since March did so yesterday. While it doesn’t hold a ton of significance for general leisure and off peak times, it means that people are generally over the message and have no real issue with flying if they damn well want to.

At your suggestion, please go ahead and calculate it.

This year specifically I would not be surprised with sub 400,000 Christmas Day. Looking only at capacity.

Well, we can look forward to it rising/spiking by the end of the month or just past New Years. They gotta come back thru right. 2021 will no doubt be better, but by how much and how this vaccine works out. Stay strong!
