1. The union would not allow HI to secede without a carve-out for the mil. HI is an absolutely vital US Pacific base.
2. It is also very much in HI's best interest... a large US presence deters the PRC. Likely that PRC (or even Russia) would annex HI if there was no US deterrence/intervention. It would be a vital base for them too. Ask some HK residents what that would be like.
3. What could we do about it? ROTFLMAO...
But this discussion is just academic. A certain political party at the national level really likes having 4 guaranteed congress seats. Same party at the local level likes having access to copious federal funding.

Just talk. States cannot limit access to US citizens, they'd have to resign from the union to kick all the tourists out (absent an emergency excuse like covid). I guess let I'd 'em go if they wanted to... they can have the place mostly to themselves, albeit with a much lower GDP. They could still make some decent money by leasing the Pearl Harbor complex and the other military facilities back to us (that would be non-negotiable anyway).

In any case, all that backs up my point. They wouldn't be leasing back the military facilities. At least not at any meaningful rate. In any case, yes, it's all academic. No state is seceding, not even Texas. And that post, and that last sentence as well, was made in jest, just to be clear.

I actually read somewhere that was recommended... apparently they don't think it's sexually transmissible, so sex is OK but breating on each other is not. Seriously, some journalist wrote that.
